Consol Partners are currently looking for a FTTH Service & Network Engineer to work for our client, a major operator in Belgium.
Function description:
The FTTH service & network engineer will be responsible of the service and network engineering of the FTTH network, based on GPON technology (ITU-T G.984 standards & BBF TR-156).
Based on the services requirements and SLA from Product Management (Residential 3-play, Business, Corporate market, as well Retail than Wholesale), she/he will collaborate to define the Technical Solutions to be implemented on the FTTH network, taking into account the interoperability aspects with Legacy Ethernet backbone network, Home-Gateways (b-box3v, ) and Service platforms (TV, VoIP, Fast Internet, ACS).
This includes also setting up testing configurations in a lab environment, test & reporting, analysing bugs and detailed technical bug reporting.
Responsibilities:
The FTTH services & network engineer collaborates to define high quality fiber access network & services solutions, which includes service architecture definition, equipment configuration, test & reporting.
Activities:
The FTTH services & network engineer will collaborate on the activities below:
- Discussion with the business units and product managers to collect & clearly understand their requirements
- Translate the business requirements in network & services architectures and propose improvements where it is possible
- Engineering of the network equipment & management applications for the services provisioning & repair aspects.
- Requirements definition & discussions for the IT integrations (OSS & BSS).
- Lab evaluation & E2E testing
- Problem reporting, follow-up, checking on possible workarounds
- Support to the guidelines & M&P definitions
Skills:
- Technical:
Good knowledge of equipment and technologies:
- Ethernet & IP network engineering
- Home gateways & home networking
- Routers, Firewalls & Switches
- International standards related to (optical) fixed access network : Broadband Forum TR156 or TR101, ITU-T G.984.x series, IEEE 802.3
- Network protocols: IEEE 802.11, 802.1Q, PPPoE, ARP, IP, TCP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP, FTP, DNS, RTP, VOIP SIP signalling (IMS), LACP, IGMP, MPLS,
- Quality of service on L2 and L3 networks (policing, shaping, )
- Network security
- Usage of measurement equipment (Emulators, traffic generator, Spirent Test Center, Wireshark, ), testing automation tools
- Analytical troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Experience in Ethernet and IP network engineering
- Personal:
- Result and customer oriented
- Good coordination, planning and organisational talents
- Good communication and reporting skills (written, oral)
- Quality oriented
- High sense of responsibility, autonomous working skills, working in team
- Language: mainly written reporting inEnglish, but preferably also French or Dutch speaking
