Mainframe Cobol Developer - Financial Services Industry - 12 month contract
Applications are invited for the positions of Contract Cobol Programmer within the Application Development group of an IT. Department based in Dublin. This is an initial 12 month daily rate contract but most contractors in there are on the 3rd and 4th 6 month extension so there is ample work.
The Job Purpose:
Job Purpose will be to deliver high quality, cost effective software solutions to maximize business benefit from IT. Your core focus will be the development (total FLC) and maintenance and development of Mainframe and Client Server systems so you will need a minimum of 3years Cobol MF Experience for initial application. There are 36 releases a year and this is a strong team.
- You will be heavily involved in project work involving major projects in the development of new product releases and applications.
- Experience required in Cobol/Mainframe development
- Online development experience required. This role is a 50-50 split between project/development work and support of current projects and systems.
- There will be some EDI, mainly development of new EDI and changes to online systems to support new products.
- Web Service development and integration experience would be a bonus but not essential. (eg using SOAP)
Ideal:
The team of 6-8 is part of a wider development team of over 60 who are creating new applications and integrating it with new platforms using Cobol. They have developed their own service layer, a middle layer to host services and some of your development will integrate with this middle layer.
Key deliverables: Writing up of technical specifications, coding, and also be able to work quickly and effectively from existing technical specifications.
New development 90% and systems support 10%. Combination of development, systems and unit testing and some support.
