Role Purpose and Role Dimensions:

As the senior manager responsible for corporate debt recovery you will be developing and executing the overall debt recovery plan through your management team and officers. You will also be leading on the development of the commercialisation of the service to win new business and achieve Revenue targets.

Key Elements:

This will involve:

  • Responsible for the collection of cash targets through the implementation of best practice debt strategies and processes.

  • Business Planning and collection rates forecasting, taking internal/external factors into account to balance cash collected versus resources available.

  • Budget management of the service including focussing on activity costing to enable cost benefit analysis of debt processes

  • Inspiring and motivating staff to excel in a Debt Management environment.

  • Analyse collection reports, budgets, expenses, operating efficiency, write-off losses, and related matters, and take the necessary corrective actions to meet/exceed collection targets. Coordinate, compile and analyse daily, weekly and month-end data for distribution and presentation to various departments and executives.

Person Specification

Essential knowledge:

    • Knowledge of debt collection best practice and approach to debt types. A/I
    • Knowledge of OFT principles and guidelines A/I
    • Knowledge of relevant primary and secondary legislation and good practice relating to housing and council tax benefits, sundry, council tax and non-domestic rates A/I
    • Knowledge and up-to-date understanding of legislative and policy frameworks as they apply to the service A/I

Essential skills and abilities

    • Extensive experience of working in a high volume, target driven environment and leading teams to success. A/I
    • Proven experience of financial and resource planning and improving cost effectiveness and service delivery. A/I
    • Experience of business development including product development for new business work and delivery implementation. A/I
    • Experience of developing focused strategies and prioritising actions, leading to change and performance improvements A/I/T
    • Experience of exploring alternative funding sources, sponsorship grants etc. to further develop services A/I
    • Experience of delivering change management initiatives leading to culture change and improved ways of working A/T/I
    • Experience of data analysis, trend forecasting and business planning to meet current and future business needs. A/I
    • Experience of driving team success to meet operational goals. A/I
    • Proven track record of challenging practices and processes leading to improved efficiency and delivery. A/I
    • Experience of implementing new customer service initiatives to improve service delivery A/I
    • Evidence of continued professional development A/I
