RRRA Engineering Manager

A key member of the Projects Engineering Team with responsibility carrying out the duties of an 'Engineering Manager' as directed by the Senior Engineering Manager (SEM) including the management of multi-disciplinary directorate and consultancy resources to provide solutions that meet our clients and other defined stakeholders requirements, with specific engineering and design responsibility for buildings

Key accountabilities

Managing engineering solutions which fully comply with all our clients and UK legal requirements together with the companies business case needs
Establishing, maintaining and communicating the engineering design programme, budget and work breakdown structure Agree with the Compliance Group the extent of processes required for the specification and verification of projects Identifying and agreeing with Heads of Department's and others as appropriate a comprehensive resource requirement for the engineering design of the project to budgetary targets
Establish and maintain (and deliver designs in accordance with) the Design Control Plans for projects
Ensuring project personnel undertaking engineering design duties meet the requirement to be Suitably Qualified and
Experienced Persons (SQEP)
Monitoring the co-ordination of engineering design activities of all design houses and other suppliers of engineering design contributing to the projects
Monitoring Project Changes as they affect Engineering Design Delivery and the effect of these changes against the initial budget and programme
Contribute to integrated safety when reviewing engineering designs and ensure that all technical and design risks are identified and appropriately managed to meet project requirements and the letter and intent of the Construction Design & Management (CDM) Regulations
Establishing and maintaining the engineering configuration to ensure the intent and integrity is maintained throughout the project life
Co-ordinating engineering input into the Project Management and Quality Plan
Integrating and co-ordinating the engineering design activities of all disciplines, departments and other suppliers of engineering design contributing to the project
Ensuring that all technical and design risks are identified and appropriately managed to meet project requirements
Ensuring design decisions are recorded and auditable through the life of the project
Ensuring design information requirements are co-ordinated and communicated to relevant parties Monitoring and reporting to relevant parties the quality of engineering across all disciplines Ensuring value engineering is undertaken in a timely manner
Ensuring timely presentation of design documentation for all necessary approvals (including any required from external authorities) and that acquisition of such approvals is achieved to ensure successful project delivery
Ensuring company requirements are incorporated into the design process including Security, Quality, Environment, Safety & Health (SQESH)

Responsibilities

Introduce best practice into engineering design and management delivery
Assist in the overall delivery of the project by the team Assist Continuous Improvement of safety and performance Assist Graduate and Staff Development
Contact with relevant professional institutions, academia and industry Maintain effective working relationships with other Authorities/Organisations Support development of engineering policy and strategy
Arrange & attend design reviews.
Contribute to integrated safety when reviewing engineering designs. Maintain effective working relationships with other Authorities/disciplines Development of Directorate as a whole.
Support to Corporate activities.
Development of external relationships, as required
To lead multidiscipline engineering for major building work packages
To manage and maintain a Design Custodian Role throughout the delivery phase
To ensure understanding and application of responsibilities with regard to the Company's Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Standards

Qualifications

A Chartered Professional of an appropriate professional Engineering Institution (eg. Institution of Civil/Structural Engineers)
Demonstrable experience in multi disciplined engineering
Full membership of an appropriate Institution

Knowledge

Undertaking design and configuration for the life of a project. Particular experience in the design of a variety of facilities including accommodation, research and testing facilities in both conventional and hazardous environments. Demonstrate a good understanding of technical standards and regulatory requirements for construction as appropriate. Understanding of the influences of design and operation on the installation, commissioning and maintenance requirements of a regulated site.
Knowledge and use of New Engineering Contract and National Building Specification

Experience

Demonstrable delivery of projects to defined levels of time, quality and cost.
To have relevant experience of co-ordinating design teams and a multi-discipline engineering resource within both conventional and hazardous environments.
Writing work scope specifications for design content to be included with contracts for procuring design from design consultants and from supply chain suppliers with design work content within their supply and installation contract Review of design packages, ensuring integration between design packages to ensure the design meets the defined scope of the design.
Previous work experience of contracts procuring design under various forms of contract, including the NEC form of contract.
Experience of working with nuclear or explosive design would be beneficial.
