System Design engineer with a Sound understanding of the system design process (including System and Sub-System Specification, Test, Integration and Certification, required for leading defence company based in Bristol.

A pro-active Systems Engineer is sought for Mission Planning product testing and certification. A team member is sought to work with Project MPA (the Mission Planning Application) and associated target modelling and rehearsal system developments. The Mission Planning products are used to generate plans, routes and detailed instructions for the applicable missiles. In-service products require support, and future developments are being bid right now. The opportunity to work on both Mission Planning and target modelling systems is likely to be available. The opportunity to work on all phases of the Systems Design process is likely to be available, with the focus on ensuring robust testing and certification

Accountabilities
Carry out a full range of systems design activities in the development of a large software product. Conduct technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options. Prepare reports with recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability.
Prepare a full range of specifications, develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained.
Carry out investigations into a full range of problems, issues or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a project team.
Define testing approaches and specify tests in assigned/specialist area(s) and evaluate and make recommendations based on results, including making suggestions to improve test/diagnosis processes.
Lead engineering support activities in the field (and carry out the most complex activities) for specific products and customers to ensure the operability of the clients products.

Skills and Knowledge
Degree or equivalent in relevant discipline
Sound understanding of the system design process (including System and Sub-System Specification, System Test, Integration and Certification)
Significant, relevant experience
Substantial analytical and problem solving skills
Practical knowledge of Raphsody or Matlab would be of benefit
Good verbal and written communications. The ability to establish and develop relationships within and beyond your immediate team.
Willingness to travel
The confidence and ability to represent the team and the company in engaging with the User and Customer community.
