FPGA/Firmware engineer with extensive experience in Xilinx, Altera and/or Actel required for leading defence company based in Edinburgh. Please note, the successful candidate will be required to hold SC Clearance prior to start.
Job Description
A contract FPGA/Firmware engineer, experienced at senior engineer level in VHDL based design & verification techniques, is required to work on FPGA/Firmware for an airborne application.
The candidate is expected to have hands on experience of developing complex FPGA/Firmware designs, over the complete design and development life cycle, working to structured firmware design process.

Qualifications:
The candidate should have a first or second degree (BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc, PhD, EngD) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (preferable) or related science (eg Physics) supported by appropriate fundamental elements and specialisation in FPGA/Firmware/Digital related design techniques. The candidate is expected to have FPGA/Firmware design skills compatible with their degree
Skills & Knowledge
The candidate is expected to have current practical experience in the following:
*Experience of current FPGA technology from Xilinx, Altera and/or Actel.
*Experience of VHDL based FPGA design and verification techniques.
*Ability to analyse system level documents and derive detailed FPGA/Firmware requirements
*Specification of complex timing and area constraints for efficient FPGA place and route.
*Experience of de-bugging and testing new firmware designs and supporting module and system related test, verification and integration project phases as required by a development type programme prior to system deliveries.
*Methodical and thorough approach to FPGA/Firmware design, ideally working to a structured FPGA/firmware process such as RTCA DO-254 or similar.
*Ability to communicate effectively across different disciplines both verbally and in written form.
*Ability to work on own or as part of a team to resolve technical issues.
*Self-motivated.
Tools:
The candidate must be familiar with current industry standard ECAD tools used for FPGA/Firmware design and development.
It is desirable that the candidate has expert knowledge in Mentor Graphics HDL Designer Series, ModelSim, Precision, Xilinx ISE, Xilinx Vivado and Altera Quartus.
