The Web Developer/Programmer is responsible for developing the structure and platform for dynamic electronic content for current students and staff and ensuring it is kept current and operational. This role supports the Office of the Vice-Provost Students (OVPS) by developing online tools for students and staff to improve student services, staff administration and reporting. This position maintains, updates and improves the functionality and navigation of websites aligned with the Division of Students, liaises with other York IT contacts, tests new media options and web technologies and stays abreast of new trends in web development and delivery.

Please note: This is a Full time limited term contract to May 13, 2016.

Education:
College diploma in one of the following areas: Web design and development, or Computer Science, or equivalent technical training experience. A university degree would be considered an asset.

Experience:
Minimum 3 years recent related experience updating websites, writing PHP and JavaScript code and managing Back End databases and content-management systems. Specialized knowledge is required in website design and maintenance and programming.

Skills:
Demonstrated skills/abilities in the following areas: excellent written and oral communication skills to elicit and publish accurate information; analytical skills for researching, analysing and interpreting information; exercising good judgment, initiative and creative problem solving skills; excellent organizational skills including ability to work independently, meet deadlines, co-ordinate a number of projects/programs simultaneously in response to changing/conflicting priorities; attending accurately to detail and working effectively under pressure of high volume; working effectively in a team environment; effective interpersonal and public relations skills; tact and diplomacy in dealing with a wide variety of contacts; maintaining confidentiality; strong knowledge in a variety of computer software including: Photoshop, Dreamweaver, FTP, Adobe Creative Suite; knowledge of MS Word and Excel; strong proficiency in PHP and HTML with experience in programming; demonstrated experience in website design and content management ; online data entry skills and knowledge of a large computerized record system; ability to stay abreast of current technologies and innovations in web design; MySQL and script languages (JavaScript). Experience with video streaming and Moodle development an asset.
