Responsibilities:
  • Apply epidemiologic and statistical methods to address safety and benefit/risk issues
  • Perform analysis of observational data to support publications, exploratory analyses and method development
  • Implement and test new methods for data mining and other epidemiological analyses as well as new statistical software
  • Adapt and apply computer intensive methods for high performance large scale screening and large data set analyses
  • Plan and execute appropriate implementations of statistical models to optimize database study analyses
  • Design, perform and document quality control checks for programming solutions including documentation of the programs and the process of producing tables, reports and analysis summaries
  • Administer epidemiology databases and programming activities to increase study analysis efficiency
  • Support ad-hoc requests from within or outside of the Epidemiology department
  • Identify opportunities within the department for efficiency/process improvement, contingency plans, and alternate strategies, as appropriate
  • Work within team environment to ensure alignment of common goals and maintain positive interaction with team members and internal peers
  • Work independently on multiple projects prioritizing according to Analytics team and departmental needs
SKILLS:

Technical Skills:
  • Expertise in SAS/SQL programming including statistical analysis procedures and strong proficiency in SAS/Base, SAS/Stat, SAS/IML and SAS Macros and basic understanding of SAS/Graph
  • Expertise in database creation, data mapping, data analyses, and quality assurance and generating appropriate documentation
  • Demonstrable expertise with implementing programming solutions on very large data sets
  • Experienced in establishing and implementing appropriate quality control when designing programming solutions in a pharmaceutical company
  • Strong general computational skills with experience in several languages, software packages and applications such as: R, Perl, S-plus, C#, Visual Basic, Python, Java, Prolog, Spotfire, Matlab, WinBugs
  • Experience with other statistical software packages (eg, SPSS, Stata, or SUDAAN )
  • Experience using claims/health care data and/or public and private epidemiologic resources is preferred
  • Experience with medical terminology and understanding of epidemiology research is preferred
  • Expertise in data mining while not absolutely essential, is desirable
  • Experience with visualization software is beneficial
  • Experience with Oracle is preferred
  • Strong organizational, written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in conducting highly detailed tasks
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Possess or acquire expert knowledge needed for, but not limited to, data collection, data manipulation and analysis of very large databases
  Qualification/Experience:
  • Masters Degree in Computer Science or related field with a statistical focus is required
  • Alternatively a Masters Degree in statistics (or a related field) with demonstrable focus on computer programming
  • 2 years or more programming in the pharmaceutical industry, academia, and/or regulatory agencies
  • SAS Certified
