Category Manager - 6 month contract - Immediate start - Basingstoke

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experience Category Manager to join a well known construction company and will be accountable on behalf of the business unit for the sourcing and ongoing category management of goods & services in assigned categories. This role will be responsible for managing procurement spend ranging between £15m and £50m. The successful Category Manager will be reporting into the Procurement & Supply Chain Manager.

Duties include:

  • Development of category and sourcing strategy/policies for specific spend areas
  • Delivery of sourcing strategy including 'go to market' strategy, supplier negotiation, contracting and service level agreement development
  • Delivery of defined savings/benefit targets
  • Management of all aspects of ongoing supplier and contract management
  • Management of benefits and compliance
  • To lead the Category Strategy Teams (CST)
  • Liaison with relevant OpCo key stakeholders to understand business needs, deliver effective demand management and address any compliance issues
  • Act as a centre of expertise and knowledge for category users
  • Promotion of best practice and continuous improvement within the sourcing team and function through leadership, vision and coaching
  • Support for the development of the supply chain management organisation in terms of market/category knowledge, best practice and skills development

Qualifications & Technical Requirements:

  • Degree/MBA
  • Recognised procurement qualification and membership of relevant professional body (eg. CIPS)

Experience & specific skills:

  • At least 5 years Procurement experience (this role will ideally require some specific experience in the categories he/she will be responsible for)
  • Proven track record of delivering savings from sourcing programmes
  • Experience in working in conjunction with technical, operational and project teams
  • Previous delivery of category strategies.
  • Capacity to manage complexity and multiple priorities
  • Knowledge of best practice sourcing processes, practices and tools
  • Experience of managing supplier relationships to ensure delivery to the agreed quality, cost and time
  • Experience of working effectively and delivering change
