Job Description

Our research group in Cork is seeking an experienced researcher to work across a number of projects investigating security and privacy issues in the Cloud. These are collaborative projects in partnership with a number of leading European research institutions and global industrials. The projects will explore areas such as the management of security parameters in Cloud Service Level Agreements and enforceable cloud security solutions for data owners. The principal researcher will work closely with the companies Irish Centre of Excellence (CoE) CTO to define and drive the centre's technical strategy and research agenda and will also serve as a key technical interface with other company CoEs and product development teams across the globe.

Essential Skills and Experience
  • Background in computer science, information technology, software engineering or any closely related fields
  • Broad systems perspective with preferably fifteen years experience in advanced development with complementary skills in engineering and applied research.
  • Experience with cloud security, federated cloud networking, dynamic configuration, automated provisioning and orchestration of cloud resources.
  • Extensive appreciation of data ownership and privacy issues as they pertain to both content providers and end-users of cloud services.
  • Strong programming skills with a solid understanding of Object Oriented languages and principles; solid hands on coding with a modern programming language, C++, C#, Java, Ruby or Python.
  • Strong technical knowledge in software development methodologies, design and implementation and experience with enterprise software design patterns and tools.
  • Ability to understand business issues as they impact IT Security and Data Privacy in the Cloud.
  • Strong analytical and design skills; a natural curiosity to go beneath the surface of a problem.
  • Strong skills in research and implementation; demonstrated capability to define research plans and carry out leading research.
  • Vision to transform/integrate research outcomes into strategic roadmaps, by providing a close-to-market vision to research activities.
  • Established publisher of research results through professional journals, academic conferences or patents.
  • Proven track record of innovation with contributions to industry forums and standards bodies.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills; is very comfortable interacting with high-level individual contributors, mangers, directors and VPs.
  • High energy levels, self-motivating and autonomous; able to perform research with minimum guidance.
Preferred Skills
  • Knowledge of IT security standards
  • Experience with EU Framework projects including day to day execution and management, development of deliverables, coordination of research activities and scheduled reporting.
  • Proven track record in architecture and design of IT systems.
  • Aptitude for collaboration and engagement with multiple stakeholders including academics, internal product development teams, industrial partners, government agencies and customers.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in computer science, information technology, electrical engineering or any closely related fields; an advanced degree (PhD) is desirable or equivalent work experience.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
