Wanted: Experienced Cobol developer for a 6 month contract in Cork, Ireland

When: You must be immediately available, or within one month

This will be a technically challenging position, working on an insurance application to tight deadlines. The role will require constant interaction with other developers in the team, business analysts, QA analysts, end user representatives and project management to provide development support for a client's claims entry and adjudication application. The successful candidate for this role will have a minimum of 5+ years commercial experience as a Cobol programmer in an IBM Mainframe environment using VSAM.

Responsibilities

  • Requirements analysis and application design
  • Providing accurate estimates and timings to project managers
  • Delivery of Cobol batch and online solutions using standard IBM Mainframe development methodologies
  • Ensuring all QA procedures are satisfied in terms of process and documentation
  • Bug Fixing and enhancement implementation
  • Communication of designs to management and developers

Requirements

  • 5+ years commercial development and support experience as a Cobol programmer in a VSE, or other similar IBM Mainframe environment
  • Proficient in Cobol, CICS, JCL & VSAM
  • Strong batch programming skills essential
  • Experience in Financial Software eg Insurance, Banking would be preferable
  • Experience of MS Access, MS Excel, Inter Test for CICS, Easytrieve and Redwood
  • Explorer would be an advantage
