Senior Safety Engineer - Tech Author & MASJ

A Senior Safety Engineer with safety justification, safety analyst, technical author and safety case authorising experience is required to work on a twelve month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our Defence client based in Cumbria.

This is a twelve month contract working for a UK leading defence company.

Overview of the Senior Safety Engineer contract role

  • Provide Technical Authoring skills to the development and delivery of the Major Area Safety Justifications (MASJ's).
  • Planning and co-ordination of the MASJ's to the agreed project deliverable time frame.
  • To liaise between engineering, safety, client and project teams.
  • Authoring of MASJ's reports in support of the safety case.
  • Attendance at meetings as required.
  • To assist in the collection of appropriate information from all parties to satisfy a comprehensive Safety Justification submission for major areas within a submarine's design.
  • Will act as the technical lead in identification, collation and provision of information to the technical author of the Safety Justification documentation.
  • Provide support and advice to the wider engineering community for the purpose of this activity.
  • To assist in the development of Safety Justification information gathering activities including the organisation with relevant stakeholders including systems experts, maintainers and operators.
  • To liaise between engineering and safety in order to satisfy the Safety Justification requirements.

Key skills required for the Senior Safety Engineer

  • Safety Analyst/Technical Author.
  • Skilled in the use of standard Microsoft packages and specialist packages, as required.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Technical Safety Case Authoring skills.
  • Experience in identifying and assessing hazards across a wide variety of systems.
  • A broad understanding and appreciation of hazard identification and analysis techniques.
  • Skilled in the use of standard Microsoft packages and specialist packages, as required.

The role is based in Barrow in Furness, Cumbria - commutable from Carnforth, Milnthorpe, Lancaster, Morecambe, Penrith, Workington, Whitehaven and The Lake District.
