Structures Engineer - X 3

A Structures Engineer with NASTRAN and PATRAN experience is required to work on a three month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our Defence client based in Lancashire.

This is a 6 month contract working for a UK leading defence company.

Overview of the Structures Engineer contract role

Our client is currently looking for a candidate who will be required with Structures Stressing on a stressing programme. The task includes loading assessment, FEM interrogation, Structural Analysis (Static & Fatigue), stressing of metallic and CFC components both by traditional (hand) and computational techniques/toolsets and generation of structural analysis reports. The applicant will preferably have previous experience working within a team of Structures engineers.

The main area of knowledge and experience required to perform the job is a specialist knowledge of aircraft stress analysis techniques (metallic & CFC) and an understanding of finite element modelling. The successful applicant is responsible for the structural design clearance of upgrades for the products development and series production aircraft fleet. In general the work undertaken will require experience and specialist knowledge of Stress analysis, NASTRAN/PATRAN FEM packages, UNIX & Linux operating systems and a good grasp of IT interfaces and word/data processing (eg MS Excel & MathCAD) and requires experience in interpreting structural modelling output and techniques for ensuring airframe structural integrity.

Key skills required for Structures Engineer

The main area of knowledge required to perform the job would be a specialist knowledge in the aircraft structural engineering discipline and a knowledge of the aircrafts airframe production and manufacturing techniques. A working knowledge of FEM NASTRAN/PATRAN modelling and processing packages, Linux & UNIX computer operating systems and aircraft structural design engineering (including CATIA design tool) is a pre-requisite.

Duties include the following:-

  • Providing the Airframe Structures Group with a structural analysis capability (Static & Fatigue) for the structural drawing clearance.
  • Carry out relevant stress analysis on existing/revised/new structural components and produce formal stressing calculation reports in support of the structural drawing clearance of the re-engineered.

The role is based in Preston, Lancashire - commutable from Blackpool, Lancaster, Morecambe, Chorley, Leyland, Blackburn, Darwen, Burnley, Skipton, Stockport, Manchester, Warrington, Wigan, Bolton, Bury, Rochdale and Oldham with excellent access from Liverpool and Leeds.
