Responsibilities:
  • The Information Architect in this role will work on a sample management and bioinformatics program that requires data transfer, data mapping, reference data management, taxonomy/semantic management, and data pedigree.
  • Reporting to the Manager of Information Architecture, the Information Architect will design, development, and implement information architecture solutions.
  • The individual in this role will be consulted as an expert and authority leading and driving innovative solutions.
  • Shares overall technical responsibility for management, planning, design, and implementation of information architecture within the research domain
  • Translates business requirements into data design requirements and subsequent data models
  • Ensures that operational and analytical data stores are able to support cross-functional business requirements for reporting across the organization
  • Communicates overall information architecture to both technical and business constituencies
  • Takes on the responsibilities associated with the establishment and maintenance of the services provided
SKILLS:

Education and Experience:
  • Undergraduate degree related to information or computer science
  • Experience with the design and building of information strategies and architecture (including modelling and database design), preferably with enterprise level information/data solutions or architecture projects
  • Experience with full information life cycle data warehousing or information integration efforts in large scale programs
  • Experience with taxonomy management connectors and queries (preferred)
  • Expertise in analytic methods and tools related to research and translational medicine, particularly around the secondary use of data, and knowledge of related regulatory and policy challenges (preferred)
  • Experience in defining and enabling Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) (preferred)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships
  • Excellent skills in leadership, strategic planning, relationship management, verbal and written communications, and customer focus
  • Effectiveness at collaboration across organizational boundaries and significant external research/clinical/regulatory influence
  • Ability to prioritize issues and drive progress in ambiguous situations
  • Ability to interact comfortably with all levels of management and actively participate on leadership teams

Technical Competencies
  • Strong experience with SQL Server R2/2008) and Oracle (11g/10g)
  • Experience with data modelling tools such as ER/Studio or Erwin
  • Experience with the following BI reporting and ETL tools: Business Objects (r3 or higher), SpotFire (4 or higher), DataStage (8.1 or higher), Informatica (9.5.1 or higher)
  • Familiarity with T-SQL and PL/SQL
  • Enterprise Architecture modelling experience
  • Exceptional data analysis skills
  • Deep understanding of core ETL architectural principles such as modularity, restartability, and parallelization
  • Deep understanding of information delivery principles including the creation of abstraction layers, query optimization, and report level calculations
  • Experience conceptualizing and implementing reference and master data environments and taxonomy projects strongly preferred
