A new role has arisen for a CAD Engineer with experience in Creo Schematics to join a private enterprise on a contract basis.

As the CAD Engineer you will be responsible for providing effective design of parts and capabilities for new or existing products for the defence vehicles by producing detailed 3D cad models and 2D drawings.

In order to be successful in this role you need to be an analytical thinker with strong problem solving skills and a solid background in Creo Schematics

Responsibilities:

  • Actively participating in design planning meetings, design reviews and other project related meetings
  • Designing parts, special tooling and assemblies using CAD to produce 3D models and 2D drawings and associated documents to meet safety and project requirements
  • Participating in risk assessments and performing independent design investigations
  • Working in accordance with drafting standards and procedures
  • Maintaining strong stakeholder relationships to effectively support the responsibilities of the position
  • Provide technical support to production, including problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Assist with independent design investigations.
  • Keep informed of new technical developments in design and CAD drafting.
  • Assist with estimates
  • Perform straightforward design calculations as required.
  • Assist in the provision of on the job training when required.
  • In conjunction with the design project manager provide guidance and oversee detailers to ensure reliable documentation is produced.
  • Assist with product prototyping.
  • Undertake tolerance analysis
  • Comply with all relevant company Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental policies and framework and work practices with the intent of preventing or minimising accidental exposures to self, colleagues, visitors and/or the environment
  • Other related duties as assigned which are relevant to the positions primary objective.

Skills and Experience

  • Engineering, trade or technical background with suitable experience in a drafting or design office using 2D/3D CAD systems, preferably with experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 1 to 3 years' experience in a relevant design environment.
  • Understands the basic principles of configuration management.
  • Ability to interpret and analyse drawings and technical documents.
  • Understanding of the relevant manufacturing processes, capabilities and systems including quality, planning and scheduling within the facility.
  • Ability to produce drawings in accordance with AS1100 or Def (Aust) 5085B using current CAD systems.
  • An understanding of OH&S issues
  • Ability to conduct independent design investigations.
  • Ability to undertake mechanical design tasks.
  • Ability to create effective 2-d and 3-D CAD models and designs
  • The ability to undertake straightforward design calculations
  • Knowledge of material properties.
  • Ability to write technical reports with precision
  • Sound, communication and interpersonal skills
