Project history

09/2024 - 10/2024
Project management and backend development
MARS GmbH (Consumer goods and retail, >10.000 employees)

During my time at Mars, I led the development and refactoring of an advanced software solution developed in PHP Symfony that automatically generated Power Point presentations from GfK and Nielsen market data reports in Excel format. The software had a user-friendly UI front-end that allowed the secure management of specific formulas through comprehensive authentication and a complex rights management system. This enabled the automated creation of more than 20 presentations for well-known grocery chains such as Aldi, Netto, Edeka, Rewe, Globus and Bela, with each presentation consisting of more than 70 slides with multiple chart types such as bar charts, line charts and pie charts. By using modern technologies and PowerPoint automation, I was able to develop a robust and scalable solution that met Mars' high standards. In addition, the integration of these technologies enabled seamless collaboration and continuous improvement of the software, and my work led to a significant increase in the efficiency of presentation creation, enabling Mars to make informed, data-driven decisions faster and more reliably.

04/2023 - 06/2024
Mobile app and backend development
BARTELS – LANGNESS (Consumer goods and retail, 1000-5000 employees)

During my time as a freelancer at Bartels Langness, I was able to contribute significantly to the development and optimization of e-commerce solutions. I contributed significantly to the development and improvement of the B2B eCommerce Shopware shop of "Bela". This included the implementation of product search, display and order functions, as well as the integration of payment gateways, shopping cart functions and custom business logic.

I also developed an iOS, Android and multiplatform app in React Native that seamlessly integrates with the B2B Shopware store. This app allows users to access the "Bela" assortment, place orders and track order status on mobile devices and tablets. A special challenge was to implement offline functionality in the app. This allowed users to access important information and place orders without an Internet connection. Implementing offline functionality required careful planning and programming to ensure a smooth user experience. During my time at Bartels Langness, I was actively involved in identifying opportunities to improve the B2B shop and app. This included implementing additional features, security updates, and stability improvements for both the infrastructure and code base.

The solution I developed significantly increased Bartels Langness' efficiency in the B2B space and ensured a smooth user experience across multiple platforms. I was proud to be part of this successful project and would be happy to contribute my knowledge and experience to future projects.

05/2022 - 03/2023
Frontend and backend development
TUI Konzern in der Tourismusbranche (Other, >10.000 employees)

The tourism service platform was optimised and enhanced to enable real-time queries and improved user experience. Additional features, security updates and stability improvements were implemented on both the infrastructure and code base. A single page application was developed to address common issues such as page breaks, load times and form constraints.
Technologies: PHP, Zend, Laminas, PHPUnit, GitLab, MySQL, Redis, Apache, Maven, Tomcat, Microservices, JAVA, Node, React.js, TypeScript, Webpack, Docker, AWS, Terraform, JIRA, Confluence

12/2021 - 04/2022
Frontend and backend development
Richemont luxury goods group (Consumer goods and retail, >10.000 employees)

A Content Management System (CMS) and a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system were maintained and serviced for a renowned Swiss luxury goods group in order to successfully continue both existing and new marketing campaigns for newly launched products, despite a switch to a new system. Although the original system was designed to be monolithic, which meant that it offered rather limited solutions, it was still successfully used to prevent a potential interruption in marketing activities. However, the complexity of the system made it difficult to evolve quickly and easily, which could affect future adaptations and optimisations of the marketing strategy.
Technologies: PHP, Drupal, Symfony, MySQL, Elasticsearch, Apache, Debian, Docker, GitLab, Jenkins, JIRA, Confluence

08/2021 - 11/2021
Backend development
Windstar Medical (Pharmaceuticals and medical technology, >10.000 employees)

A highly available e-commerce platform was developed for a provider of gourmet gift boxes and advent calendars, enabling multiple online shops for different brands to operate simultaneously. The software architecture focused on fast user queries to minimise load times.
A distributed microservices architecture combined with AWS cloud computing optimises resource utilisation and enables easy scalability. In the event of critical failures, only a small part of the system is affected, increasing platform availability and reliability.
Technologies: PHP, Symfony, commerctools, frontastic, MariaDB, nginx, serverless, microservices, Docker, Traefik, AWS, Terraform, localstack, Git, JIRA, Confluence

04/2021 - 07/2021
Frontend and backend development
Software agency for eHealth solutions (10-50 employees)

An eHealth solution has been developed to address the challenges faced by physician practices, clinics, and hospitals in balancing resources, workloads, and demands. The solution takes into account current process and data requirements in HL7, enables active patient management along the treatment pathway and optimizes hospital operations.
Special attention is given to the seamless integration of patients and external partners to reduce staff workload and accelerate workflows. This eHealth solution creates value for all stakeholders and promotes digital connectivity in healthcare ecosystems.
Technologies: PHP, Symfony, MariaDB, RabbitMQ, Apache, Debian, Node.js, React.js, Docker, Vagrant, Microservices, GitLab, JIRA, Confluence

10/2018 - 02/2021
Senior Software Engineer
real.digital (Consumer goods and retail, >10.000 employees)

An Identity Provider (IdP) is a centralized access system for service provider services that simplifies user authentication across multiple systems. Familiar applications can use federated IDPs, such as Facebook or Apple login, to outsource user registration and authentication. The IDP provides cybersecurity services such as single sign-on (SSO) and authorization for access to specific resources.
Communication between the IdP and the service provider takes place via security protocols such as SAML, OpenID or OAuth. The IDP was developed with Symfony in PHP and consists of several microservices within its own cloud infrastructure.
A dedicated IDP and microservices were developed for a large retail chain, providing features such as single sign-on, real-time analytics, PAYBACK integration, a mailing service, loyalty programs and online receipts.
Technologies: PHP, Python, Symfony, MongoDB, MySQL, Redis, RabbitMQ, nginx, Debian, Logstash, Elasticsearch, GraphQL, React.js, Webpack, Serverless, Microservices, Bitbucket, Bamboo, JIRA, Confluence

11/2016 - 10/2018
Technical Project Manager
real.digital (Consumer goods and retail, >10.000 employees)

As a technical project manager, I was responsible for the implementation of an Identity Provider (IdP) system and other products such as loyalty programs and mailing systems. I managed a team of up to 12 developers and developed a centralized, secure and efficient solution based on cloud infrastructure and microservices.

10/2013 - 10/2016
Full-stack developer and project manager
DIE PR-BERATER GmbH (10-50 employees)

As head of the web department of a PR communications agency, I was responsible for building and leading a team. As a recognised IHK trainer, I supervised media designers and computer scientists. My tasks included optimising production processes, assigning tasks, planning, preparing quotations, invoicing and advising clients.
I was also responsible for staff management, training, team coordination and project planning. I also developed and designed print products, planned and managed print and non-print marketing campaigns, programmed websites and desktop applications, developed mobile applications (iOS, Android) and designed 3D visualisations. I also managed the company's IT.

10/2013 - 10/2016
full stack developer
ELYEE Uhren GmbH (10-50 employees)

As part of a project, we developed a user-friendly website with a customised CMS and an integrated ERP system. Various automations such as collection overviews, list generation, image processing of product images and data sheets were implemented to make the website efficient and informative.
The site was translated into five languages (German, English, Russian, Chinese, Dutch) to appeal to a wider international audience. The successful implementation resulted in a modern and efficient online platform that optimally supports the customer and increases its reach.
