Dear Consultant,
Our client, a major global energy & grid technology organisation, is hiring an experienced Customer Support Engineer (WAMS) to support real-time grid monitoring, synchrophasor systems (PMU/Phasor Data), and critical grid operations applications.
This is an L2/L3 support engineering role in a high-availability environment supporting utilities, grid operators and control-room systems. Send CV to (***@***.co.uk) if you are interested.
Location: Edinburgh, UK (Onsite/Hybrid depending on client schedule)
Contract: B2B / Freelance
Duration: Long-term (extensions likely)
Language: English (fluent)
Clearance: UK citizens or full UK work rights required
Experience: 5+ years
Key ResponsibilitiesProvide L2/L3 support for WAMS software, servers, and grid monitoring infrastructure
Diagnose & resolve issues related to WAMS performance, PMU connectivity, and data quality
Monitor real-time data flows, ensuring stability & accuracy of synchrophasor data
Support incident, problem, and change management with ITIL processes
Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions
Support patching, upgrades, hotfix deployments
Collaborate with global engineering, R&D, and operations teams
Prepare documentation, knowledge articles & best practices
Deliver customer workshops, training, and technical guidance
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering / Computer Science or similar
Strong hands-on experience with WAMS platforms (GE / Siemens / ABB / Schneider or similar)
Power Systems knowledge: SCADA / EMS / DMS
Understanding of PMU & Grid monitoring protocols:
IEEE C37.118
ICCP/TASE.2
DNP3
IEC 61850
Experience with:
Linux / Windows servers
Networking fundamentals
Database systems (Oracle / SQL Server)
Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and debugging skills
Ability to work with global clients and cross-functional engineering teams
Nice to Have
Experience supporting critical grid operations
Knowledge of real-time systems performance
Previous work in utility, energy, or transmission system operator (TSO/ISO) environments
Certifications: ITIL, power systems, OT/SCADA training
