This role forms part of a major Deutsche Bahn tender for an upcoming large?scale rail infrastructure programme in Ireland.
Project & Role
We are seeking an Environmental Lead (m/f/d) to steer environmental compliance and sustainability within a major rail infrastructure programme.

Your responsibilities
  1. Lead environmental and sustainability efforts, including carbon and circular economy implementation
  2. Ensure compliance with environmental commitments and rail order requirements
  3. Oversee all environmental deliverables, including those from other contractors
  4. Define methodologies and resources for additional technical studies as needed
  5. Review and ensure contractor environmental plans comply with project standards
  6. Support creation of integrated environmental solutions during design
  7. Identify and mitigate environmental risks
  8. Maintain strong understanding of environmental legislation in Ireland and internationally
  9. Ensure compliance with environmental management systems throughout the project lifecycle
  10. Lead and mentor environmental engineering team
  11. Ensure documentation meets technical and functional standards
  12. Manage project activities for compliance with rail order requirements
  13. Provide design assurance and technical support for environmental plans
  14. Align and coordinate sustainability efforts across the project
  15. Conduct regular reporting and support planning and control processes
  16. Perform additional tasks as required by the role
Your profile
  1. Minimum 15 years professional experience with at least 7 years’ experience in environmental management within a multi-disciplinary rail project
  2. At least Bachelor’s degree (Honours Bachelor Degree) (or equivalent) in an environmental or sustainability related discipline
  3. Chartered member of of a relevant professional body preferred e.g. Chartered Engineer (EI or equivalent), Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv, ISEP or equivalent), Chartered Project Professional (APM, IPM or equivalent) or Programme Management Professional (PMI or equivalent)
  4. BREEAM AP certification preferable
  5. BREEAM Infrastructure Assessor certification preferable
  6. Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing certification preferable
  7. Being trained as Lead ISO auditor
  8. Experience in implementing and managing project controls and report writing
  9. Understanding and experience in the relevant technical field for the role
  10. Experience in quality assurance processes to ensure that project deliverables meet the required standards
  11. Knowledge of environmental, sustainability, and technical standards (BS, EN, IS)
  12. Understanding of railway systems, design, operations, and safety
  13. Ability to generate clear specifications and interface documentation with cross-functional teams
  14. Skilled at engaging and managing stakeholder relationships, including regulatory bodies and customers
  15. Strong verbal and written communication
  16. Expertise in risk identification, assessment, and mitigation
  17. Effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams for cohesive delivery
  18. Problem-solving and solution development skills to keep projects on track
  19. Knowledge of Technical Assurance for compliance with standards
  20. Flexibility to adapt to changing project needs
  21. Strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and outcome-driven skills
