Description
Our client is searching for an experienced freelance Electrical Lead Engineer to take a leading role in the design and execution of electrical systems for petrochemical and refinery industry projects. This is a long-term freelance engagement, offering an hourly rate of 35–40 EUR, and is well-suited for senior professionals who bring deep technical expertise and are comfortable managing the full electrical engineering scope across project phases.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and lead the development of electrical systems for petrochemical and refinery facilities
- Plan, manage, and monitor electrical discipline activities in line with project specifications and contractual requirements
- Analyze and interpret technical contract documents and integrate them into project-specific guidelines
- Prepare project documents including one-line diagrams, control and protection schematics, terminal diagrams, and substation layouts
- Perform electrical system calculations such as short circuit analysis, power balance, cable sizing, lighting intensity, grounding, and lightning protection
- Develop layout drawings for consumer locations, cable tray routing, lighting, and grounding
- Define hazardous area classifications following safety and regulatory standards
- Create installation details and prepare material take-offs
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, vendors, client representatives, and package unit interfaces
- Prepare technical inquiry documentation for electrical equipment
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)
- Support subcontracting processes, including preparing bills of quantities
- Supervise electrical installation activities when necessary
- Review vendor and internal project documentation to ensure technical and regulatory compliance
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
At least 8 years of experience in plant engineering, specifically within the petrochemical or refinery sector
Strong understanding of medium and low voltage systems; high voltage experience is a plus
Proficient in software tools such as AutoCAD, Dialux, and MS Office; ETAP or similar tools are a benefit
Excellent communication and coordination skills
Fluent in English; additional languages such as German are an advantage
Able to work independently and manage technical scope
Willingness to travel for short- or medium-term project assignments (3 to 6 months)
Based in Poland with flexibility for remote collaboration

- Experience preparing proposals and documentation for international clients
- Familiarity with EPC project workflows and contract handling
- Experience working within multicultural and multidisciplinary teams
- Proactive and adaptable approach in dynamic engineering environments
