Senior Data Engineer (Contract)
Location: Edinburgh, UK and/or London, UK
Onsite: 3 days per week (mandatory)
Start: ASAP
Duration: 12–24 months (high likelihood of extension)

About the Role

We’re hiring a Senior Data Engineer for a long-term engagement with a large, global technology organization operating at scale in AI-driven and data-intensive environments. You’ll work on building high-performance data pipelines, supporting advanced analytics and ML-driven initiatives, and ensuring robust, scalable data infrastructure across multiple domains.

What You’ll Do
  1. Design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines for large, complex datasets
  2. Process and integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple sources
  3. Ensure data quality, reliability, and performance end-to-end
  4. Collaborate closely with AI / ML teams to deliver production-ready datasets
  5. Support data governance, lineage, and documentation in a pragmatic, impact-focused way
What You Bring
  1. Senior level Data Engineering experience
  2. Excellent Python and SQL skills
  3. Experience in big data environments (e.g., Spark, distributed systems, cloud data platforms)
  4. Solid understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT, and pipeline architecture
  5. Willingness to work onsite in Edinburgh or London 3 days/week
Nice to Have
  1. Exposure to ML / AI data workflows
  2. Experience with orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow or similar)
  3. Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
