Darwin Recruitment are currently hiring for a Senior GNC Engineer on behalf of a company in Germany that? was founded in 2018 that focuses on developing next-generation rockets to provide sustainable access to space for small and medium-sized satellites and satellite constellations. Their primary launch vehicle, the Spectrum rocket, is a two-stage, liquid-fueled rocket designed to deliver payloads of up to 1,000 kilograms into low Earth orbit.

As part of the Guidance, Navigation, & Control team, you will lead the technical development of the autopilot of the launch vehicle. You will be responsible for developing the necessary simulation environments, investigating launch vehicle configurations and implementing algorithms. Furthermore, you will actively drive the development of future GNC software.

More specifically, you will:
  • Maintain and advance the flight controller with post-flight data
  • Tune digital filters based on flight data
  • Perform large Monte Carlo simulation for Mission and pre-launch analysis
  • Write and evaluate GNC requirements to structures, propulsion and avionics
  • Maintain and update physical models (sloshing dynamics, flexible body dynamics, 6DOF rigid body dynamics, Vibration) for the purpose of controller design, filter selection and system performance evaluation
  • Develop and maintain tools for post-flight analysis
  • Formulate and drive performance requirements of relevant subsystems (e.g. Thrust Vector Control Actuator and RCS thrusters)
  • Lead mission analysis efforts and develop pipelines for report automization

Qualification Checklist
  • Master's degree or PhD in Aerospace, Electrical, Robotics, Mathematics or similar
  • At least 3 years of experience in mathematical modelling, development and validation of algorithms throughout the disciplines of Guidance, Navigation and Control
  • Strong background in mathematical modelling and data analysis in MATLAB and all relevant Tools (Simulink, Stateflow, autocoding etc.)
  • Proficient in rigid and elastic body dynamics and Orbit mechanics
  • Proficient in nonlinear system modelling in frequency and time domain (tank sloshing, actuators, valves)
  • Proficiency in discrete signal processing technics (filters, noise modelling)
  • Experience with state-space controls
  • Experience with statistical analysis methods (Monte Carlo, uncertainty propagation)
  • Proficient in data analysis in frequency and time domain with Python
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary software projects in GIT
  • Fluent in English
