Our client in Central Government, is looking to hire a Service Designer to join a well-established team.

Responsibilities and requirements:

  • Understanding of Government. You have a deep understanding of current ways of working in government, and how this impacts on digital delivery. Have experience of working in government digital delivery and digital transformation, including experience of service design and working with policy, operational and other professions to deliver digital outcomes.

  • Service Design: You have an understanding of the importance of inclusive, equitable, accessible and sustainable public services. You have experience in designing services for users in complex environments. You have experience in making effective decisions with user research data. You can absorb large amounts of conflicting information and use it to produce simple designs.

  • Prototyping. You develop prototypes of varying fidelity depending on what is needed to robustly test the idea/proposal. You can establish design patterns and iterate them. You can use a variety of prototyping methods and choose the most appropriate.

  • User focus. You can collaborate with user researchers and can represent users internally. You can explain the difference between user needs and the desires of the user.

  • Communicating between the technical and non-technical. You can mediate between people and mend relationships, communicating with stakeholders at all levels. You digest a wide range of information at pace; turning this into clear advice for senior stakeholders, handling both quantitative and qualitative evidence to make decisions. You can manage stakeholder expectations and moderate discussions about high risk and complexity, even within constrained timescales.

  • Digital perspective. You can demonstrate responsiveness to changes in technology, adapting your approach accordingly. You can make decisions to meet user needs in the government context. You can understand the importance of assisted digital and can design services and make decisions to meet user needs.

  • Team dynamics and collaboration. You have experience of engaging with people in a variety of ways (eg, workshops or co-design activities). You share work early and often, and work collaboratively with other teams, professions and organisations, and build strong interpersonal relationships, actively maintaining networks of colleagues to achieve progress on shared objectives.
