Compliance and Controls Analyst - Internal Audit - SOX & PCOAB

My client is a large Utilities client in Coventry, and they are currently looking for a Compliance and Controls Analyst. This role is required to support the UK Controls & Compliance team which provides controls expertise to the UK business, including the provision of general controls guidance, support and formal testing of control design and operation to support annual controls compliance process.

Key Tasks

  • Performing formal evaluation of the design and operation of key controls over financial reporting in accordance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act
  • Performing evaluation of the design and operation of other business controls
  • Supporting and advising the UK business with the remediation of control deficiencies
  • Provision of general controls (financial & otherwise) guidance, training and coaching to the UK business
  • Supporting the UK business with the development and maintenance of process documentation for key financial processes (including documentation of process risks and controls)
  • Developing & preparing reporting relating to controls
  • Coaching and training for more junior team members

Skills and Experience

  • Experience of internal or external audit, or other process/controls assurance activities (for instance Sarbanes-Oxley testing)
  • Qualified or part Qualified Accountant and/or qualified audit practitioner (but this may be demonstrated through robust practical experience rather than formal qualification)
  • Ability to understand and critically assess complex business and financial processes and produce high quality process and controls documentation (including production of process flow diagrams using MS Visio or similar)
  • Knowledge and experience of control frameworks (COSO 2013) - including a robust understanding of process, risk and controls
  • Good finance knowledge & experience
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proficient planning and project management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organisation and with key external stakeholders.
  • Ability to recognise priorities and adjust/re-direct resources accordingly in order to ensure milestone deliveries.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proactive, with ability to manage own workload, to time and desired levels of quality.
  • Strong team player, contributing to the delivery of team objectives
  • Ability to challenge existing processes and provide opportunities for process improvements and/or greater efficiency
