Description

Overview of the Role

We're looking for an ambitious individual for the role of Commercial Manager to play a key role in the team overseeing one of major fixed line network partners.

A successful trading category is built on strong commercial partnerships, and developing a successful broadband category is a critical step in the overall Multiplay strategy and transformation.

The role is broad-ranging and fast-moving - supporting development of the long term partner strategy and commercial deal negotiation right through to day-to-day trading performance. The individual will work closely with one or more network partners to deliver market-leading service propositions, commercial terms and initiatives to support the growth of our multiplay category and maximise profitability.

What Kind of Person Are We Looking For?

Individual will need to be able to demonstrate:

  • High levels of energy and drive, a real passion and commitment to grow the performance of the broadband and TV business every day
  • Sharp commercial acumen - ability to spot opportunities, and follow them through from negotiation to delivery
  • Ability to grasp detail quickly to identify what's important, but also to put it into the big picture strategy - to understand what actions are going to make a positive difference to performance
  • A positive attitude and willingness to contribute strongly to the overall team
  • A great communicator - ability to influence senior stakeholders and external partners with compelling written and oral communications
  • A proactive mind-set - to drive new thoughts, and ideas to the Connectivity team, which support an environment of creativity and energy
  • Be proud in their work, and deliver work at a high quality that is right first time every time
  • To be organised - from building Joint Business Plans, to aligning different stakeholders to launch an initiative, as well as supporting commercial negotiations, they will need to keep it together!

They are likely to have a background of:

  • A commercially focused role - responsible for achieving key financial outcomes
  • Business planning and strategic thinking - what is the plan in three months, 6 months and 3 years. What are the opportunities we need to deliver in the short term, and where is the account going long term?
  • A fast moving consumer-facing business background, with a history of making things happen beyond the standard plans. This could be in a variety of industries - retail, telecoms, technology, consumer goods, consumer services, financial services
  • A familiarity with the consumer telecoms market will be an advantage, but not a pre-requisite for the right candidate

The Role

  • Reporting into the Senior Commercial Manager, supporting the primary day-to-day relationship with one of the major network partners - including the overall commercial contract and delivery against this
  • Support the definition of the commercial strategy for your network partner(s) and build the commercial and operational plan to deliver
  • Support the relationship with the Network(s), in particular, the point of contact for a range of commercial, trading and operational issues and opportunities across all elements (trading, investment, finance, escalation of issues)
  • To provide support within the team to ensure delivery of priorities internally with the business and externally to the network
  • Key input to and ownership of annual joint business plan with your network partners that moves the relationship beyond a contract
  • Engage the wider organisation with the priorities of the network(s)
  • Maximise network revenue generation through new innovative initiatives
  • Planning and agreeing network targets with the network and the business
  • Working with category peers to ensure the proposition teams deliver to network targets and maximise profitability
  • Manage the overall performance of the Operator within Carphone Warehouse, Currys and call centre/online operations, ensuring delivery to operational SLAs and appropriate tracking governance by Operational teams
  • Ensure all key contractual KPIs are measured and understood
  • Ensure new propositions and offers are introduced successfully in the business, including challenges back to the networks where there are alignment issues and working with internal teams to define ideal state.

Key Skills Required

  • Self-starter; plenty of initiative and drive
  • Expert analytical and numerical skills
  • Commercial acumen and financial awareness
  • Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships, understanding our partners and how to maximise our relationships
  • Ability to deliver multiple requirements against tight deadlines and react to change
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skill
  • A strategic thinker with ability to implement ideas rapidly.
