Senior Content Designer - Bristol or Nottingham (Inside of IR35) - £375 per day

My Public Sector client is seeking a Senior Content Designer to oversee a team of Content Designers. This role can be based in Bristol or Nottingham and will require travel to other sites. This is an initial three month contract.

This role is paying up to £375 per day and has been assessed to be inside of the IR35 regulations which means you will have to operate via an Umbrella company.

Job details: Taking the lead, supervising or directly line managing other Content Designers, clarifying and communicating team objectives, bringing a broader perspective to a team so that it can focus on different delivery approaches. Co-ordinating and monitoring team performance, utilising team diversity to maximise effectiveness. Scoping, commissioning, writing, editing and publishing digital content across all channels (web, mobile, social media) write with a user, not a client/department in mind first and foremost. Working on needs analysis - taking existing content, identifying content gaps and overlaps. Develop transition plans and attend planning meetings with contacts, delivering content assets that are accurate, timely, high-quality (based on insight and outputs of user testing, relevant to audience, easily understood) and to the organisation's style, monitoring the performance of content and tools and work with the Product Manager and a multi-disciplinary team to understand user behaviours and feedback.

You will be Responsible for:

  • DVSA's compliance with the government's design principles and standards, and the agency's
  • reputation in these regards
  • Identifying people's needs using web analytics and both desk and practical user research, and matching them to appropriate content formats
  • Creation, monitoring and improvement of content and style across DVSA's content on GOV.UK in response to evidence of people's needs, behaviours and preferences
  • Influencing the continual improvement and development of GDS's systems to better serve the people who use our content managing, developing and recruiting creative and skilled content designers.
  • Ensures that:
    • Communications Business Partners and other major commissioners of content and publishing receive excellent 'account management' and that each of their audience's publishing needs and preferences are prioritised over the agency's convenience or conventions it is continually simpler, clearer and faster for people to understand, remember and act on government services and information, so they can stay safe and comply with the law and national standards
    • user-centred content is created and presented to be as effective as possible in the service of DVSA's strategy, in response to analytics and user insight
    • management of DVSA's content is Agile, appropriately prioritised and responsive
    • DVSA is a great place to work for content designers, with the right equipment, professional networks, knowledge and understanding they need
  • all DVSA's GOV.UK publishing content (not transactional or data content) has appropriate subject matter expert approval for accuracy, reliability and compliance.
  • Responsible for managing a team of content designers who match user needs to appropriate content formats, and creation, monitoring and improvement of content and style across DVSA's content on GOV.UK.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Experience of writing for GOV.UK and using GOV.UK publishing applications, writing content in markdown.
  • Extensive experience of writing for the web, with proven ability of creating content that meets user needs
  • Experience of managing workflows for digital publishing.
  • Experience of mentoring and coaching content designers.
  • Experience of using analytics and insight to understand the needs of users and how they use content.
