One of my clients in the pharmaceutical market based in the UK is looking to hire a Senior Scientist to the team!

Location: Slough, Berkshire, UK
Senior Scientist - 12 month contract
Main responsibilities
* Work with the cross-functional project team (research, clinical & bioinformatics) to develop and apply complex primary human cell models of disease that reflect the biology of the target.
* Using a range of scientific competencies, develop relevant assays for: drug mechanism of action and functional investigation; drug combination screening; clinically-relevant biomarker discovery.
* Depending upon experience, contribute to the development and incorporation of new technologies and/or techniques and mentoring/training of other scientists.
* Comply with HTA regulations, ensuring that relevant training is up-to-date and that you have read and understood the HTA Policies and Procedures Manual.
* Maintain Health & Safety awareness to ensure safe working practices for our staff and contractors.
* Using deep technical knowledge and experience of drug discovery, drive project progression in context with information from other business functions.
* Create a culture of inclusion and positivity with a common goal of delivering therapeutic treatments.
* Maintain grounded relationships with other stakeholders across the business, ensuring effective communication for pipeline progression.
* Liaise with external industrial and academic collaborators to ensure we remain at the forefront of drug discovery and disease understanding.
* Maintain Health & Safety awareness to ensure safe working practices for our staff and contractors.
Education & experience
Either PhD (or equivalent) 4 years post-graduate research experience in cancer cell biology.
* Experience in human cancer cell biology, particularly in investigating interactions between tumour and stromal cells in the cancer microenvironment.
* Experience in culture of primary human tumour cells from patient biopsies, ideally including 3D tumour organoid generation.
* History of successful development of human tumour cell culture assays to model the cancer microenvironment (in 2D or 3D) and application of these to anti-cancer drug testing.
* Significant expertise in flow cytometry or imaging-based proliferation /apoptosis assays and phospho-signalling.
* Molecular biology expertise including RT-PCR and RNA isolation for RNAseq analysis.
* Competent in using plate-based assay platforms such as ELISA/MSD for protein biomarker analysis.
