Team Mission
The UK communications team provides strategic communications advice and activities in support of our business and image agendas in the UK. We work through many communications channels including traditional and digital media, our own channels, social media, word of mouth and direct engagement with customers and partners as appropriate.
A key aspect of our role is explaining Microsoft's overarching story as well as our individual businesses, offering overall context and communicating our brand relevance to our many different audiences. We demonstrate thought leadership that is reflective of our market position, leadership, innovation and future vision. We act as an internal catalyst, providing market insight and helping to shape our business strategy. We build employee advocacy, understanding of and passion for our products and our company. And we strive to dispel myths, negative stories and competitor depositioning.
The Commercial PR manager role focuses on Microsoft's broad mix of products and services aimed at the commercial market and is tasked with bringing to life our three bold ambitions:
Build the intelligent & trusted cloud (Azure, SQL)
Reinventing productivity & business processes (Office 365, Dynamics, Skype for Business)
More personal computing (Windows 10, Surface, Surface Hub)
Role Purpose
This PR manager role drives the creation, management and execution of communications plans, strategies and tactics in support of Microsoft's commercial business in the UK
This role closely aligns and integrates with the overall communications vision and narratives for Microsoft UK
This role will work closely with the rest of the Microsoft UK PR team and its PR agencies - and will report into the Commercial Communications Lead
Key Accountabilities
Ensures consistent management and execution of communications programs to increase positive perceptions of Microsoft's commercial portfolio and offerings in the UK;
Counsels and supports business stakeholders in building the right plans/tactical execution in support of positive perceptions for Microsoft's commercial business in the UK;
Partners with in-house resources and our PR agency partners to help create and communicate compelling stories via traditional and social media, bloggers and other influencers
Partners with Microsoft's external PR agency, managing programs, campaigns and budget & resources
Anticipates and helps to mitigate potential issues and crises
Manages day-to-day product announcements (major announcements with team lead)
Manages reactive response and core media relations with agencies
Manages Customer Spotlight programme to demonstrate and drive usage with SMB, enterprise and public sector customers
Equipping commercial sales teams with media coverage and customer examples, maximising use of customer stories across digital and social channels and leveraging customers for Microsoft events
Event management and execution, directing agencies to maximise delivery and ROI
Manages the news calendar for the commercial business in relation to broader Microsoft agenda, to help drive consistent and timely messages to the market

Demonstrated passion for technology and the value it brings to business and organisations of all sizes;
Ability to seek out social and traditional media opportunities to help amplify our products, campaign wins and brand
Gains respect and viewed as an excellent partner to those segments and engineering groups driving the commercial business
Managing agency activity to a high standard and enabling their success
Develops an excellent relationship and engages with our key industry partners who help to deliver Microsoft services to the market (key Partners within the Microsoft Partner Network to be determined with the Partner team)
Takes a highly collaborative approach to PR and communications, including the ability to resolve conflict and ambiguity to craft a one Microsoft story with external resonance. This will include partnership with colleagues across the marketing team
Knowledge, Skills
Essential
Strong track record in managing PR campaigns and agency resources to deliver tangible results
Extensive knowledge and understanding of the UK traditional and social media landscape
Personal Attributes/Interpersonal Skills
the candidate should possess excellent collaboration skills and a demonstrated ability to partner well with key stakeholders internally and externally, self-starter, yet happy working in a team
Technical/Functional Skills
Solid writing skills, active social media follower/leader
