Description

ScienceLogic, Inc. has several positions available for mid- and senior-level software engineers who possess a strong understanding of software engineering processes and methodologies, as well as object-oriented design and programming experience. You will work as a software development engineer within a project team responsible for the design and development of many projects using ScienceLogic’s hybrid IT dependency mapping technology—in this case you will focus on multi-process Python applications delivering compelling new features and product capabilities. Ideal candidates will be able to take a key role in reviewing/accepting requirements, building new data collection, manipulation and storage functionality and/or features that use this data to make the hybrid cloud manageable from a single pane of glass.

General Requirements

  • Successful candidates will have a background in application development in LAMP stack. Not an expert? That’s OK. If you’re experienced in MySQL but don’t know Python you’ll be expected to learn Python, and vice versa.
  • Experience as team member delivering a commercially available software product (not just a web-based service) is highly desirable.
  • The ability to go deep into understanding a particular IT domain (e.g. storage, networking, virtualization, video) from a monitoring and management perspective is required. You don’t have to come with the know-how, but you’ll need dig deep and learn it.
  • SNMP. ITOM. ITSM. AXL SOAP. If you’ve written software that involves these technologies, you’re likely a good fit. Fluent in some but not all? This is a perfect environment to broaden your knowledge.
  • Experience in an Agile software development environment is highly desirable.

    Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain highly scalable Python processes for the purpose of data collection, manipulation, data pruning, trending and analytics, etc
  • Review requirements submitted by product managers and take a lead role in implementing said requirements.
  • Review and correct and/or delegate resolution of defects
  • Participate in feature hand-off demos to provide internal exposure to emerging features and functionality

    Technical Requirements

  • BS in CS or equivalent technical discipline. Have equivalent real world experience? Tell us about it.
  • 5+ years software development experience in two or more of: Python, Perl, PHP, C++, etc.
  • Experience developing multi-threaded or multi-process software
  • Basic working knowledge of at least one of: SNMP, SOAP, RESTful APIs
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, from requirements through delivery.
  • Experience as a lead developer on at least one major project
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Experience in the area of network or systems management is a major plus.
  • The ideal candidate will also be a self-starter, a problem solver, has excellent time-management skills, and is open and collaborative. While the company is based in Reston, Va. this position doesn’t necessarily have to be. If you currently work remote from a “home office” you’ll understand why the skills just mentioned are very important.
