Description

Modis have an urgent vacancy for an FPGA engineer experienced in FPGA/VHDL design to join an established client of ours in Gloucestershire. The role will be for 6 months.

The FPGA Engineer will be working on the latest network encryption hardware and software. You would will be a valued participant in the UK's defence against cybercrime, a priority within UK Defence at the moment.

Main Duties of the Position
* Work alongside Principal & Senior Engineers to capture and analyse complex system requirements to provide robust and reliable technical solutions.
* Generate supporting technical documentation of a sufficient standard as to be sent to external customers.
* Collaborate with other team members (including engineers in other disciplines) to agree system designs, interfaces and protocols etc.
* Devise appropriate test procedures, both informal and formal, to verify the correct operation of design solutions, and to perform bench tests for regression analysis.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential:

In order to be successful within this role and reap the benefits that come with it is essential that the right candidate is/has:
* At least 4 years experience of the design, development and implementation of FPGA development using VHDL
* Experience in writing firmware to coding guidelines with knowledge of testing and documentation processes.
* Significant experience of developing self-checking testbenches, BFMs
* Experienced in achieving timing closure on FPGAs

Highly Desirable:

Whilst not essential, it would be preferable if the perfect candidate has:
* Experience of a communications related environment and/or IP Networks and communications protocols an advantage.
* Experience of designing for security
* System engineering, requirements capture, requirements analysis, requirements decomposition and requirements management using DOORS
* Excellent understanding of all firmware concepts including design for re-use and test coverage.
* Experience of current best practices across the firmware industry.
* Experience of developing on large Altera and/or Xilinx FPGAs and/or ARM System On Chip
* Working knowledge of the following engineering tools; Synplify, QuestaSim, Quartus II, Xilinx ISE/EDK/Vivado
* Scripting; TCL/tk, Perl
