Admin of active SQL database
- Configure and maintain SqlServer 2012 in Development, Test and Production environments, including monitoring of system health and performance to ensure high levels of performance, availability and security;
- Experience of detailed system monitoring and alerting at both OS and database levels;
- Working to strict SLAs and providing support to numerous databases including MS Dynamics and Data Warehouse systems;
- Experience of backups, restores and recovery models;
- Experience of Performance Tuning and Optimisation using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools;
- Some experience of working with Service Broker;
- Ability to refine and automate processes, track issues and document changes;
- Knowledge of capacity planning and being able to highlight issues/problems well in advance;
- Proficiency in SqlServer Replication;
- Perform scheduled maintenance and support releases deployment activities after hours;
- Would require at least 5 years MS SQL Server Administration experience, ideally with some Microsoft DBA Certifications.
Data Analysis.
- Ability to read and interpret complex T-SQL to facilitate analysis and fixing of problems;
- Assist developers in query tuning;
- Requirement to manage database schemas, managing and implementing DML change, and advising of same;
- Experience in keeping parallel database systems in sync with each other, and taking corrective action where required to correct data issues, so attention to detail would be critical;
- Ability to work with range of people ranging from developers to business users to extract database detail, so good communication skills are essential .
Data Warehousing.
- Experience with Sqlserver Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages which facilitate loading of data into Data Warehouse (DWH) databases;
- Good ability to mirror change from core database systems into Data Warehouse both at the schema and SSIS package level;
- Ability to replicate DWH production and implement in Test environments.
Report Writing/BI Dashboarding.
- Same as above can you advise what is required here re the tools we use eg Tableau etc.
- Working knowledge of SqlServer Reporting Services (SSRS) and administration;
- Working knowledge of SqlServer Analysis Services (SSAS);
- Work with Business users to develop new SSRS and maintain existing reports
There is still an emphasis on the DB Admin aspect of the role as the priority. The analysis and report writing/BI/dashboard are required but only if the person is strong on core admin.
