Description

Computer Futures are currently working with a High Wycombe based company who provided solutions across a range of military, civil and related high integrity systems. My client is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join their team.

The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for managing and conducting Software Engineering activities throughout the complete life cycle of a project. The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for:


  • Software development in accordance with company procedures and tools.


  • Managing development throughout the system life cycle and developing Software Development Plans.


  • Defining and documenting Software Requirement Specifications.


  • Development and documentation of the Software Design, through Software Design and Interface Specifications.


  • Developing the software acceptance strategy, and verification method for each software requirement.


  • Writing and running Software Test Specifications.


  • Holding regular project, schedule and risk reviews with the project manager and Software Engineering Team Leader.


  • Project input to project progress reports and meetings, engineering estimates to complete and input to risk identification and mitigation.


  • Supporting Systems Integration and fault investigation and supporting safety verification process as required.


  • Supporting the project SDA as required,


  • Liaising with customers and suppliers as required.


  • Software design using a combination of UML and free format word design document.


  • Working within an Agile environment contributing to daily scrums and backlog estimating.


Technical Skills Required:
  • Degree in relevant subject (Computer Science/Engineering). Chartered Engineer status or Professional Registration is desirable.


  • Knowledge of Network programming and analysis and common communication protocols including RS, TCP/IP, UDP etc.


  • Embedded software development for semi-real time application using QNX or Linux


  • Experience IBM/Telelogic 'Rhapsody' (UML/ C++), Windows HCI development using Visual Studio C++/.NET using C++/CLI or MFC.


  • Experienced in synthesising high-level software requirements through to software design using object oriented techniques (UML).


  • Experience of software development in the defense industry or relevant environment and familiarity with the whole software life cycle.


  • Experience of capture and analysis of software requirements, and assessing software designs characteristics against requirements.


  • Experience of software development planning and management, software acceptance activities and supporting system commissioning, integration and acceptance.


Personal Skills:


  • The successful candidate must be self-motivated with the ability to define and achieve goals and a team player with the flexibility to cross boundaries if required. Good Communication and Presentation Skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is the ability to write clear, concise, well structured, technical documents.


  • This position requires good organisation skills, a willingness to embrace new technology, the ability to get the job done within agreed constraints, and the ability to multi-task, including working on more than one project concurrently.
