Description

JDM Associates (JDM) is currently seeking a highly motivated Drupal Developer on a contractor basis with strong front-end development skills to build an online tool called the Energy Efficiency Financing Navigator. We are developing this tool as part of the Better Buildings Challenge program on behalf of the Department of Energy. This is an exciting opportunity to use your skills to develop an impactful tool that will help educate building owners and business leaders about how they can access financing for clean energy and energy efficiency.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work with JDM’s graphic designer and project management team to build the Energy Efficiency Financing Navigator website and interface in Drupal. Graphic design and detailed mock-ups of the site are already complete, and you will work with our team to write the code to implement these design elements as an interactive site.
  • Integrate the Navigator into the existing Better Buildings website and tech stack.
  • If necessary, develop a simple SQL database to support tool functions.
  • Participate in discussions with the Department of Energy’s current web development team to ensure smooth integration and seamless transition of maintenance responsibilities once your work is complete.

    ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Track record of developing interactive Drupal sites
  • Strong front-end development and user experience skills
  • Back-end development experience and knowledge of My SQL for database applications.
  • Ability to closely track projects and tasks to ensure on-time and on-budget high-quality deliverables.
  • High degree of self-confidence and determination.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to manage multiple time-sensitive priorities.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field of study or equivalent experience in the field.
  • 3+ years’ experience in Drupal development for interactive sites

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROJECT

From a development perspective, we envision the Navigator as built around an underlying "taxonomy"—a small database of maybe 15-20 financing option types (e.g. leases, loans, energy savings agreements, PACE) and the 20 or so variables that describe each. The Navigator will include both an “explore” feature that lets the user slice and dice options in different ways to see how they compare, as well as a “tool” that asks the user to input some basic information about their project and recommends potential financing option types based on that input.

The tool will need to be integrated into the current Better Buildings Solution Center (http://betterbuildingssolutioncenter.energy.gov/). The current tech stack in use is:

  • Drupal 741 running hundreds of community modules

  • Red Hat Linux 6 server

  • Apache is the web engine

  • My SQL 5.1 for database

  • PHP 5.3

  • Would likely run the tool as a new instance of Drupal that would be integrated into Solutions Center, rather than shoehorning into the current instance

We have begun developing the content for the tool with the goal of having a beta version live by summer. We are in need of a good front-end developer to work with us to scope and develop the tool—we have content experts in house but no developers.
