OS Build Engineer/Specialist

Role:

The Platform and Service Development group is a multi-skilled technical team of engineers/developers with a strong focus on creative technical solutions to the challenges of efficiently managing large scale Business Critical IT infrastructure.

We are currently looking for a build automation specialist with a can-do attitude to join a project responsible for delivering our next generation of cloud infrastructure services. Working with our subject matter experts and support teams you will develop OS and infrastructure build standards, scripts and templates for use in a highly automated virtualized platform.

You will have a strong team of techies around you to support you but will be expected to be a self-starter who can research and understand new technologies quickly and design and propose solutions for peer review. Good team-working is a must and experience in a multi-disciplined agile-type environment is a plus.

Responsibilities include:

  • Defining and documenting OS build standards
  • Working with the subject matter experts define and automate the application of server hardening
  • Creating, testing and documenting OS build templates
  • Automating and documenting post-build OS configuration changes
  • Packaging standard applications for post-build deployment
  • Develop an ongoing template management and version control framework

Person:

  • Senior support or engineering level experience (ideally with experience of design, deploy and operations of IT infrastructure)
  • Proven experience of developing repeatable, zero touch automated OS builds, preferably in both Windows and Linux environments
  • Scripting configuration changes against both hardware and software
  • Experience of Scripting/automation against APIs
  • Familiarity with CIS hardening standards an advantage
  • Excellent Troubleshooting and Analytical skills
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills
  • Able to work effectively in a team and a cross multi-functional teams
  • Experience of any of the following technologies is an advantage:
    • Powershell
    • Ansible
    • Packer
    • Chocolatey
    • GitHub
    • VMWare vRA
    • VBScript (Legacy script migration)
    • Altiris
