Mechanical Test Engineer/Birmingham/6 Month Contract/To £40 Per Hr
Department: Test and Validation
Job Purpose:
Responsible for the planning, setup, commissioning and support of engineering rig tests on aircraft fuel system pumps, actuators and hydro-mechanical units.
Key Responsibilities:
Designing hydro-mechanical test rig circuits to meet test procedure requirements
Diagnosing faults and problem solving hydraulics, pneumatics, instrumentation and control systems
Supporting a wide variety of fuel system tests such as hot and cold fuel, vibration, and simulated operation
To develop the knowledge required to provide advice to project teams on instrumentation and rig control issues
To ensure that the right test equipment is available and correctly defined in advance of the rig build
To ensure that all test equipment used is well maintained and kept in calibration
Correlation and re-commissioning of test rigs to support site move to a brand new facility in Birmingham
To capture good quality test data using data acquisition systems
To understand and interpret test data
To ensure HS&E requirements are adhered to at all times
Understanding DSEAR requirements and ensuring compliance for all testing in ATEX certified zones
Developing a strong practical working knowledge of fuel control systems and the certification process to support the development of new test strategies
Continuously improving the department's test capability and quality of test data
Contribution to improving departmental procedures, guidelines and training material
Qualifications/Experience:
Relevant engineering degree (Mechatronics, Control or Instrumentation ideal), HND or equivalent experience
Strong engineering background, preferably in a test environment
Experience of fluid flow, pressure controls and drive systems
Experience of electro-mechanical systems and instrumentation
Experience of test system hardware and software (especially National Instruments)
