Description

Mechanical Engineer with FEA experience

Introduction:

A vacancy has arisen for a professional Mechanical Engineer to work within the weapons design team on projects through all stages: from design and development stage through to the final manufacture and implementation.

Typical duties and tasks:

  • Perform technical investigations of problematic/failed systems.
  • Creation/manipulation of 3D models which will require analysing through FEA techniques and calculations.
  • Root cause analysis.
  • Structural analysis
  • Concept generation and development/evaluation of technical solution options and preparation of reports with suggested recommendations.
  • Concept generation and development/evaluation of test rigs/methods to validate root cause(s) and solutions.
  • Develop designs in line with requirements and all quality and technical standards.
  • Weight optimization of systems/structures via re-design and/or use of advanced materials, such as titanium and aluminium alloys, composites and additive layer manufacturing techniques.
  • Integration of sub-systems into an evolving product design, including laboratory tests, shop-floor development testing and off site trials.

Educational Background:

The candidate will have been educated to degree level or equivalent in a mechanical engineering discipline with postgraduate experience within an engineering environment.

The candidate should ideally meet the requirements for registration as incorporated or chartered engineer and preferably be a member of a relevant professional body.

  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Presentation skills.
  • 3D CAD (PTC Creo2).
  • Structural/Stress analysis (MS Excel, Mathcad, FEA {PTC Simulate/Ansys}).
  • Engineering background in naval systems, weapons systems or design for military use.
  • System Control (Matlab/Simulink)
  • Hydraulic System Design
  • Advanced Materials: Composites, Additive Layer Manufacturing
  • Leadership skills
  • Chairing reviews
