Senior Engineer - Functional Safety

A Senior Engineer with Functional Safety is required to work on a six month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our Defence client based in Glasgow.

This is a 6 month contract with a leading UK defence company.

Overview of the Senior Engineer - Functional Safety contract role

To support our clients marine systems technical authorities and systems integration lead in planning, coordinating and conducting as well as provide effective delivery of product safety management. You must be able to provide specialist product safety skills to the broader marine systems team and co-ordinate and conduct the day-to-day product safety activities of our clients marine systems team.

Key skills required for the Senior Engineer - Functional Safety

  • Able to demonstrate understanding and experience of the safety analysis of the functional operation of complex systems.
  • Confident with assisting engineers develop strategies for hazard removal and risk reduction.
  • Able to write Product Safety Justification Papers and Safety Case Reports.
  • Appreciation of functional failure hazards and software risk mitigation requirements.
  • Experienced in risk management, this will include hazard identification, analysis, risk assessment and risk mitigation.
  • Competent with applying formal hazard/safety assessment techniques and methods such as:-
    • HAZID (Hazard Identification)
    • HAZOPS (Hazard and Operability studies
    • FFA (Functional Failure Analysis)
    • FHA (Functional Hazard Analysis)
    • SWIFT (Structured What-If Technique)
    • FTA/ETA (Fault/Event Tree Analysis)
    • FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) etc.

The role is based in Glasgow - Commutable from Kilmarnock, Paisley, Greenock, Stirling and Falkirk with excellent access from Edinburgh
