Summary
Working within a large, exciting and genuinely fast paced team, we have a number of exciting positions within the Newcastle Cloud DevOps Team, supporting multiple accounts. Working as part of the Cloud DevOps team of experienced Linux technicians, the role involves software packaging and application integration, close collaboration with other IT providers/application developers, the build and commission of technical environments, including the development of automated processes, and the integration of those environments with the wider estate.
The team has adopted an Agile approach to IT delivery and are specialists with niche skills. The Newcastle DevOps team are part of a technical capability that is driving forward automation in both architectural and delivery, therefore knowledge and experience in this field is essential.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Create designs using SPARX
  • Documenting business processes in BPM notation
  • Building Production and Technical Test services as required;
  • Writing OO Flows to introduce automation;
  • Software packaging, development of RPMs;
  • Installation; configuration and integration of Apps across the environments;
  • Ability to analyse and fault find often complex technical issues including network and DB connectivity;
  • Liaising with third party Development Architects to resolve discrepancies in build issues;
  • Investigating issues with infrastructure for all services;
  • Assisting and contributing to plans and running orders to document all activities;
  • Identifying and rectifying build/deployment problems;
  • Collaborating with other parties within HP (Project Managers, DBA teams, Test Teams etc) to complete builds efficiently
  • Ensuring all build documentation is up to date under change control and is baselined with Configuration Management

Primary Skills

  • Strong technical background - predominantly in Unix and Red Hat Linux. Proven working knowledge and experience in Unix (IBM AIX), Red Hat Linux and Scripting.
  • Experience in the installation and configuration of a number of the software packages listed is absolutely critical.
  • Understanding and documenting business processes in BPM notation is required
  • Scripting experience in Powershell/UNIX Shell
  • Excellent technical analytical skills and experience with software packaging and application integration.
  • Proven experience in technical automation and tools, including HP CSA, SA, OO as well as Chef, Puppet, Git. Knowledge and experience in writing OO flows is essential.
  • Knowledge and experience of RPMS would be highly advantageous.
  • Knowledge and experience of the Atlassian Software Suite, including JIRA, Confluence, bit bucket etc.
  • Ability to work in a disciplined environment and to meet challenging deadlines, under pressure.
  • Understanding/previous experience working with Agile Methodologies.
  • Effective interpersonal skills. Ability to work unsupervised and with a self start mentality.
  • Must be prepared to work extended support hours and this will include weekend working

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

  • Installing and configuring Sun One Directory (LDAP), SQL, MQ WorkFlow, IBM Business Process Monitor, Business Objects, Perl, SSL Configuration and Certificate Handling, Understanding of Networks, JAVA. Knowledge and experience of Openshift, Docker.
  • Specific knowledge and experience of installing and configuring the aforementioned applications.
  • Windows/Active Directory experience would also prove advantageous.
  • Experience of working in the finance sector is advantageous
