Senior Capacity Planner - Mainframe and Open Systems
My client, a leading IT Services company is currently looking for an experienced Senior Capacity Planner for a long term contract based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The ideal candidate must have Capacity Planning/Management experience with exposure to IBM Mainframes, AIX, Solaris, Linux and Wintel environments.
You should have a good understanding of the various virtualization tools that run on the environments mentioned above, ie zVM, PowerVM, Solaris Domains/zones/containers/OVM and HyperV - VMWARE knowledge will be an advantage.
You must have strong skills on Software License Management, especially with regards to IBM, Oracle, Microsoft, CA and BMC software products and be able to use your Software License skills together with your hardware virtualization knowledge to achieve the most effective/efficient usage of resources.
Ideally you will have a minimum of 10 years in this role.
You must have good skills with tools such BMC Patrol, OCI, Velocity, BMC BCO, MS Excel.
Skills and Experience of the following:
- Capacity Planning and Management of Mainframe and Open systems.
- Analyse capacity and performance data to ensure that systems are performing to specification and advise on upgrades/replacements as required
- Manage CPU and Storage Capacities across environments. Provide Capacity sign-off for projects.
- Provide input into the budgetary planning process
- Investigate Capacity issues and initiate corrective actions where required.
- Produce ad-hoc Capacity plans for server environment.
- Provide recommendations for new hardware.
- Reduced Software license costs through right-sizing and consolidation of workloads.
- Manage Capacity Planning for Mainframe and Unix environments. Meet with business units on 6-monthly basis, obtain growth projections, prepare and present Capacity Plans to Senior Executives.
- Prepare technology business cases as appropriate
- Organise and co-ordinate vendor presentations and proof of concept implementations of new technologies.
Hardware Knowledge
EMC Symmetrix VMAX and VMAX3, Hitachi USPV, Netapp, IBM Disk sub-systems; CISCO MDS Director Class SAN Switches; IBM z13 or EC12 or z196 Mainframes, IBM p-Series P7 or P8 enterprise-class Servers, Oracle M-Series and T-Series Servers and HP Intel-based Servers.
Exposure to Hyper-converged solutions will be an advantage.
