1 x Oracle DBA position is available in Valencia, Spain.
This is a potentially long term contract, six months to start plus the potential to extend up to two years or longer. It is an English-speaking role and needs someone motivated and interested in living and working in Spain for the duration.
Key experience required is Oracle database administration, Oracle RAC and RMAN and experience of stretched clusters, also known as expanded clusters or distance clusters.
The successful candidate will join an international organisation that provides remote IT and Communication support. It's a multinational environment and as a Database Administrator you will join an existing team made up of Oracle and SQL Server specialists.

Your duties as Oracle DBA:
  • Provide technical support for Managed Oracle Database Hosting services, including system administration of Oracle database technology components.
  • Design, install, configure and support Oracle database instances.
  • Design, install, configure and support Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), including Stretched Clusters.
  • Implement backups using RMAN, disaster recovery using DataGuard, monitoring using Oracle Enterprise Manager.
  • Apply database patches, updates and perform upgrades.
  • Co-ordinate with the application and database vendors for resolution of problems (functional bugs, performance issues, etc).
  • Assist in the provision of technical support for the ERP development team of the Partner Organisation(s).
  • Assist in the planning and running of disaster recovery tests.
  • Provide assistance in landscape design.
  • Monitor capacity.
  • Perform routine production support activities and provide incident and problem management support.
  • Troubleshoot database-related issues.
  • Undertake performance tuning.
  • Produce documentation as required.
  • Implement project-type activities and other requests for services.
  • Perform support activities during maintenance windows.
  • In case of emergencies, provide support (either on-site or remotely using VPN connectivity) outside normal working hours.
  • Provide standby and on-call support as and when required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Your skills and experience should include:
  • Excellent knowledge in the installation and administration of Oracle Databases with a minimum of 5+ years as an Oracle DBA.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both oral and written.
  • Extensive knowledge and support experience of Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) including "Stretched Clusters".
  • 11gR1/11gR2 installation and troubleshooting experience including production performance issues.
  • Experience with SQL and PL/SQL development.
  • Knowledge on performance tuning tools like AWR, ADDM, EM, ASH etc.
  • Experience with disaster recover, RMAN, backup and similar.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Practical experience with interactive systems, advanced understanding of relational databases.
  • Knowledge of Service Level Management Principles (ITIL).
  • Able to live and work in Valencia, Spain.
  • Any Spanish or French language skills will be a bonus.
The client's standard workday is 8 hours, but candidates should be prepared to provide on call or standby support services as required, usually one week out of every six. The client also has an office in New York and occasionally you may need to provide DBA activities in line with NYC office hours.

Valencia is a great city and 3rd largest in Spain.
