SQL DBA - SQL Database Administrator / Developer

I am recruiting for a talented SQL DBA (Database Administrator) / Developer to join a team of 6 other DBA's and Developers for a massively growing, and talented team based in Gloucester. They are currently working on some exciting new and challenging green field projects, using SQL 2016, and have plans to be one of first to allow all their staff to be train on the new release of SQL 2017, so this is an opportunity for someone who wants the chance to be part of a growing team that is recognised as key players in the organisation.

My client understands that it is business critical to have a strong DBA department, so you will get the opportunity to work closely with some extremely talented Developers and DBA's and be part of a team that will shape the future of the organisation.
Key duties of the role:

My client are migrating all their SaaS services to Azure, and this is an opportunity to have hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code, working within the Infrastructure Team on deploying and improving HA SQL Server 2016 to run our SaaS services. You will also have an opportunity to work with other data technologies like CosmosDB, Table Storage and Graph DB.
Essential Experience and Skills:
  • Tuning of queries to improve performance and lower server impact
  • Troubleshooting customer data issues
  • Development and design of SQL databases to be efficient and robust
  • Review developer SQL code and optimizing code
  • Integration of the client's databases with third party systems using SSIS and troubleshooting SSIS packages
  • Migration of data from other third-party systems into the client's databases
  • Configuration and set up of SQL server on Azure
  • Daily maintenance and backup of databases to meet company RPO/RTO
  • Providing second/third line support on database related issues
  • Continual monitoring and improvement of SQL Server on Azure
  • Writing queries to manipulate or modify data for customer project work
  • Creation of database triggers for automation e.g. email notifications and running imported data through business logic
  • Management of maintenance for tables larger than 100GB
  • Working with development teams to support customer data requirements
  • Working with development teams on best practice guidance and providing performance enhancements when problems occur

Key Skills and attributes - Technical
  • 3+ years with Availability Groups, preferably on Azure IaaS
  • Proven experience of installing, configuring and supporting SQL server
  • Understanding of DMVs and using them to troubleshoot server performance
  • Knowledge of AD and Windows settings which impact SQL Server performance
  • Proven experience and knowledge of SQL server related tooling, T-SQL and SSIS
  • Ideally, experience of building and maintaining databases in Azure

Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 + 10% Bonus, working from home available, Flexible working hours, Free Technical Training provided, Pension, Personal Career Development plans for all staff, and the list goes on!
