Battery Functional Safety Engineer

Objective

To create and support the generation and delivery of all functional safety work products for assigned HV battery programmes and technologies, from hazard identification and concept design to final validation and sign off.

Essential:

Duties will include:

• Understand requirement cascade with Powertrain, Electrical and Chassis, including those of the HV battery, Power inverter / DCDC and Vehicle Supervisory Control (VSC)

• Work closely with BMS team, both HW and SW

• Responsibility for ensuring the safe operation of the battery management system both in normal and fault conditions and developing the safety cases for the systems to demonstrate this against ISO26262 guidelines

• Managing the safe design of a concept from hazard identification and classification through to final validation against the safety case

• Hazard and Risk Analysis development

• Organize and execute user trials

• Develop Functional Safety concepts

• Develop Safety Requirements to cascade to the suppliers

• Validate the Safety Case

• Sign-off the system through the production of the Safety Case Report

• Functional Safety Assessment

Required skills/experience:

• Experience of functional system design and the application of systems engineering principles.

• Awareness of full V-cycle of control system development and testing.

• Familiar with ISO26262

• Qualified to degree in an engineering discipline, or are able to demonstrate equivalent levels of training and experience.

• Strong experience with safety related systems, particularly complex electronic systems

• Safety critical software techniques and methods

• Design for safety related systems

• Safety system analysis

• DOORS

Desirable

• Experience working in the automotive sector

• Experience of working on hybrid / electrified vehicles

• Experience in SysML / UML

• Supplier liaison experience
