This programme of work has been created to continue the projects in the connectivity area. The engineer will consult the Network Architect and Project Managers in the delivery and maintenance of leading edge network components. These tasks are NOT a hands on routing / switching position and requires the consultant to be able to think how the network should be implemented, use best practices and document what they have done.
Project start & end date: the project is ongoing and is expected to complete by the end of 2020.
This role is based in Dusseldorf, with potential travel to other locations in the UK, Sweden and Germany.
Tasks:
• Alignment with different business unit representatives regarding requirements and consumption and understand the business requirements
• Create an implementation plan to implement key changes
• Implement key changes to improve the user’s experience of connectivity in the areas of WAN, LAN and WLAN, Cloud networking (ER), Understanding of PAC files, DNS and AD.
• Implement key changes to the ZScaler platform
• Apply best practices for implementation
• Work with 3rd parties to improve network routing
• Analysation of the current network routing
• Presentation of solutions
• Professionally advise 3rd parties in the diagnosis and resolution of issues causing IT incidents
• Monitor, and report on, the performance of network to the Network Architect and Unit Head
• Developing of measures in case the performance is not as expected
• Work with IT partners and the Network Architect to implement the Connectivity Change Roadmap (includes SD-WAN adoption)
• Creation of project documentation with Microsoft Office
Skills:
• Network architecture including: LAN, WAN, Cisco, IP, MPLS, OSPF, BGP, F5 Load Balancers, Firewalls & Peer P2P networks, within a service provider environment / enterprise network
• DNS and AD skills required
• Express route and AWS skills
• Wireshark and network analytical tool skills
• Advanced analytical and conceptual skills.
• 2nd line support skills in the event of major IT incidents
• Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills.
• Very strong communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Dedicated Team Player.
• Strong initiative and willingness to change.
• Highly self-dependent, result- and process-oriented way of work.
• Minimum 10 years networking experience
• Ability to think “cloud” first
• Take solutions through to implementation stage by guiding (and sometimes insisting) that our vendors go in the right direction.
• Extensive experience of managing third parties, preferably gained in an outsourced IT environment.
• Experience of working under the pressure and within programs which have several dependencies.
• Experience with the IT infrastructure of energy companies is a plus.
• English and German fluency essential
