Major global corporation seeks a Solution designer with a strong hands on technical background to produce elegant and technically efficient designs for the upgrade and enhancement of key systems within the organisation.Critical skills and experience include: Cloud - AWS & Azure, DevOps environment and tooling (CI/CD, jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes), API, Microservices, Java, Agile.
Responsibilities
- Elicit requirements for the enhanced platforms from various stakeholders/sources, working with Product Management and UX design
- Ratify decisions with architecture governance to ensure standards are followed or dispensations granted
- Work with architecture counterparts on the definition of interfaces into and out of the platform
- Validate the as-is architecture, identifying risks and issues to be addressed
- Participate in workshops to ensure that design interests are suitably represented
- Record key design decisions made on the architecture of the platform
- Oversee and guide solution design as they elaborate the low-level details of the platform
- Apply published architecture patterns/blueprints, working with stakeholders to develop existing and new patterns
- Working with engineering to ensure the process for delivering change to Production is robust and secure
- Support the squad as they translate architecture from logical to physical and map onto appropriate cloud services
- Create and own design deliverables to articulate the key aspects of the solutions in the team
- Produce solution designs that articulate details in the architecture to guide implementation by the squad
- Elicit low-level details to guide in areas that are significant from a design perspective
- Ratify designs & decisions with the architecture to ensure that direction is aligned with technical vision
- Guide the squad during the implementation of solution designs, providing an escalation point for questions & issues
- Work with the solution architect to remediate issues that block design/implementation progress
- Analyse changes being made to the architecture and assess the impact these have on the solution design
- Oversee realisation of the architecture through delivery of the agreed solution designs
- Interpret agreed patterns to establish the components and interactions required in the solution design
- Possess in-depth knowledge and experience of designing solutions using a variety of AWS services
- Knowledge and experience of Azure would be beneficial but not essential to the role
- Experience working with solutions that have been delivered onto containerised platforms is useful
- Ability to articulate designs through documents/diagrams using standard modelling notation
- Previous work on a developing a portal or knowledge aggregator site would be an advantage
- Multiple years experience as a technical lead or solution designer working on large systems in complex organisations
- Exposure to application development life cycles would help understand the domain which our products & services sit
- Previous work mapping application development process, principles and standards to document best practice is useful
- Self-starter able to operate at pace, take ownership and drive positive outcomes
- High standards when it comes to delivering with specific attention to detail
- Outstanding communication skills, must be able to communicate with audiences at differing technical levels
- Ability to influence stakeholders to overcome barriers and ensure architecture is supported within the organisation
- Use of architecture patterns/blueprints in the delivery of standardised solution designs
- Clear and concise documentation/diagrams
- Use of modern architectures such as APIs, microservices and event streaming
- Keep pace with new capabilities being delivered by each of the cloud providers
- Familiarity working in an environment using Agile delivery methods and teams using DevOps principles
You MUST have a background of delivering Solution Designs within large scale, corporate, enterprise level companies, ideally with a mix of onshore, offshore, in house and external consulting teams and you MUST have experience in DevOps teams, API/Microservices and Cloud/AWS/Azure environments.
ALL roles will be Inside IR35 via an Umbrella company.
