Description

Knowledge Manager - Contract - Surrey - £350 pd

We have an exciting new role for a Knowledge Manager based in Surrey! This is a 2 Month Contact and you will undergo a BPSS Clearance.

Our client has recently introduced a central Engineering function within the business which aims to bring together previously disparate capabilities within local engineering teams. One aspect of this is to increase sharing of knowledge across engineering staff, driving more effective working (better leveraging expertise of staff, increasing learning from experience, and increasing re-use), and creating a more attractive working environment, with increased sense of community.

Existing knowledge sharing activities are focused on individual teams using combination of SharePoint sites, wikis and physical/virtual meetings. In order to achieve their objectives, they need first to identify the business requirements for Knowledge Management within the engineering domain, define our strategy and a plan to implement it in support of a business case for further investment. Assuming this case is successful, the Engineering Knowledge Manager will oversee implementation and ongoing management of the solution.

The Engineering Knowledge Manager reports into the central Engineering function and is responsible for the creation and implementation of this strategy to facilitate knowledge sharing across engineering staff, including with the broader systems and industry, in support of our strategic objectives. Our aim is to create an environment where knowledge sharing is part of the culture.

The Manager will work with the engineering community across both central function and the market-facing divisions, and also with the existing Knowledge Management function and key stakeholders in IS and Communications. The Manager reports into the central Engineering Operations Director.

Role responsibilities:

  • Catalogue existing Knowledge Management activities relevant to Engineering.
  • Work with the business to identify and prioritise, based on business benefit and return-on-investment, requirement for engineering knowledge sharing.
  • Liaise with the Knowledge Management function, IS and other stakeholders to define our strategy, and produce a plan and supporting business case for delivering a solution to meet these requirements, drawing on good practice from industry.
  • Deliver any tactical quick wins based on extension of existing local activities across the broader business.
  • Ensure buy-in and executive support for the strategy and proposals.
  • Oversee implementation of the proposed solution.
  • Design, implement and communicate metrics on the usage of the Knowledge systems/initiatives to build future business cases and demonstrate ROI.
  • Monitoring the use of the Knowledge Management system and identifying ways to close gaps, reducing inefficiencies and improve the organization of knowledge.
  • Work with the business to engender a culture of knowledge sharing across engineering.
