Responsibilities

Plan, estimate, develop, and deploy updates and new site functionality

Write exemplary, well-tested code

Support site operations and respond to performance issues

Work on bugs reported by our users and team members to ensure our user experience is of high quality

Develop new features in collaboration with our design, marketing, and product teams

Communicate clearly and effectively using Slack and email so we’re all on the same page

Requirements

Passionate about web technologies

2-3+ years web development experience using Python, Ajax, jQuery, Bootstrap, HTML5, CSS3

Strong MySQL skills including query optimization

Experience working in an agile environment and continuous integration

Comfortable in Linux environments

Experience with Amazon Web Services

Experience with Apache Solr

Experience building and consuming RESTful web services

Experience using versions of control software like Git or SVN

Caching, scaling, and front-to-back performance best practices

B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or related field

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desirable Skills

Building and maintaining Content Management Systems (CMS)

Bonus points if you have experience with mobile development for iOS and/or Android

Data Driven Product Development using experimentation, A/B, and multivariate testing

Monitoring performance diagnostics to troubleshoot production systems

Experience with Nginx, Celery, Memcached is a plus

Experience with NoSQL like MongoDB is a plus
