Description

An Event Apart, the design conference for people who make websites, seeks a freelance, part-time, front-end developer to work with our web designer, creative director, and project manager on ongoing design and UX improvements to our site at aneventapart.com.

You have a mastery of HTML, CSS (including Flexbox), and JavaScript. You’re a thinker who cares about good user experience and knows that the smallest design details matter. Progressive enhancement is your bread; mobile-first responsive design is your butter. Sweating web performance details is your idea of Saturday night; arguing the semantics of blockquote, your idea of Heaven.
We’re looking for someone who has strong familiarity with ExpressionEngine and its add-on ecosystem, and who’s comfortable writing EE templates and logic to deliver what we need. Someone who can take our bespoke little install, get it up to date, streamline where needed, and have it purring like a contented kitten. Someone who’s ready to re-code as we evolve the design, content strategy, user experience, and anything else that needs to change.

We’re a small, decentralized team, so we need a professional who can schedule their own time, honestly commit to reasonable deadlines, and get work done without constant nudging. Responsiveness is also important. If the site springs a leak, we should be able to reach you by email and hear back from you within an hour or two. We anticipate needing up to 20 hours per month of your time for the first few months as we continue to roll-out site improvements large and small. Familiarity with A List Apart, A Book Apart, and An Event Apart is a plus, but not required. The desire to do great work matters most.
