Description

Role/Responsibilities:
  • Designs and engineers core network builds and expansions, and prepares designs for integration into the existing network for RIP (Switch Removal) projects.
  • Documents system specifications and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.
  • Coordinates design of subsystems and integration of total system.
  • Responsible for design and engineering of core network elements for the Region/Markets.
  • Builds equipment in Engineering database and may include circuit design.
  • Prepares and authors the network engineering documentation (qualitative/quantitative) for presentation to other functional teams.
  • Works with cross functional teams (Market/Region/National) to communicate the engineering designs in support of the development and deployment of network upgrades/enhancements and core node parameter standardization in the markets.
  • Supports the markets and vendors with the implementation efforts.
  • Assigns relay rack and port assignments on existing infrastructure.
  • Interfaces frequently with Transport engineering, RF/BSS planners, and system design engineers.
  • Issues work orders and MOPs to market and national operations teams pertaining to the configuration of traffic patterns, new node implementation, trunk migration, etc.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
  • In-Depth knowledge of various vendor equipment, such as Nortel, Nokia, Ericsson, or Alcatel-Lucent.
  • In-Depth knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Strong Analytical skills.
  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 2-4 years Network Engineering
  • 6+ years relevant telecommunications experience
Preferred:
  • MCSE or Unix/Linux Administration Certification is a plus
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory Services and enterprise management
  • Experience in Windows or Linux/Unix Server domain design and implementation
  • Proficient in TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, WINS technology
  • Solid Knowledge of SAN architecture and technology
  • Experience with backup software and strategies
  • Experience with disk configuration and use of RAID with NT or Unix/Linux Systems
  • Strong knowledge of Internet computing technologies
  • Good communication and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under tight constraints and deadlines.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Carries mobile phone to provide after hours support.
  • After hours support is required occasionally.
  • Share knowledge and provide technical guidance to coworkers.
