Principal Development Engineer (V&A)
Responsibilities
- To lead the mechanical development and verification of engines
- To lead, plan and supervise engine development programs
- To conduct detailed analysis of test results
- To prepare technical reports, presentations and papers
- To supervise project teams either individually or work under the direction of a project manager
- To provide input to the engine design as part of a multi-function engine project team
- To liaise with internal and external customers, program suppliers and represent the Verification & Analysis department at meetings where required
- To contribute to technical capability of the Verification & Analysis department
- To develop commercial quotations, and conduct business development activities when required
- To have line management responsibilities for up to 2 engineers
- Responsible for the quality of the test data, results analysis and reports
- Responsible for adhering to or seeking deviation for the development procedures
- Responsible for the clear instruction of staff using the appropriate procedures and forms
- Responsible for feeding back test results to the internal and external customer in a timely manner
- Responsible for drawing conclusions and making recommendations from results obtained subsequent to test work
Skills/Experience
- A Degree in Mechanical, Automotive or Aerospace Engineering, or HND coupled with relevant industry experience.
- Membership of a Professional Body is desirable
- Considerable relevant experience of engineering preferably gained within an automotive environment
- Knowledge and working experience of quality systems and procedures is advantageous
- Experience of engine testing for engine development and durability work, including working with engine management systems.
- Experience in both gasoline and diesel fuels desirable (and/or alternative fuels)
- Experienced in MS Office, engine management systems, Concerto and Matlab

- Ability to read, understand and interpret engineering drawings
- Able to supervise the work of others
- Familiarisation with Instrumentation techniques and hardware would be an advantage
