As the Press Officer you will be responsible for this Government Agency's press handling. You will own, drive forward and deliver the Agency's press handling strategies and all reactive and proactive media/social media activity.

Experience Required:
  • Experience of working in a high-profile, fast-paced press office, handling reactive media queries, preferably previous experience in public sector communications.
  • Experience of generating, writing and placing pro-active press articles.
  • Ability to think creatively to instigate press campaigns to support business objectives.
  • An expert at using and developing social media as a key part of press work.
  • Practiced at using insight to develop plans that have measurable comms objectives that support business objectives, are tailored to the audience and take into account the emerging news agenda.
  • Experience of anticipating the emerging news agenda and acting to manage an organisation's reputation - being on the front-foot and minimising negative media coverage.
  • Ability to initiate and lead reactive and proactive integrated media campaigns that demonstrate flexible, creative thinking, build on insight, use tracking data, use the most appropriate and cost-effective channel mix, maximise digital channels, identify risks and plan mitigating actions
  • Proven ability to handle high-profile and sensitive media issues and providing a clear and trusted brief to media and colleagues.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver dashboards to support timely evaluation and identify lessons learnt
Clearance: BPSS - candidates will need to go through a Disclosure Scotland prior to starting the role.
