FairVote is seeking to hire a part-time graphic designer to develop visual and presentation material on electoral reform issues with a particular focus on ranked choice voting. Under the supervision of the Director of Communications, the graphic designer is responsible for taking complex reform ideas and translating concepts into attractive and informative visual products (infographics, social media visuals, flyers, brochures, and presentation documents). The preferred candidate has a design and marketing/communications background with 2-5+ years of experience in visual communications, graphic design, marketing, or a related field.

This is a grant funded position for 2016 with possible extension. Remote work is permitted.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design attractive graphics according to FairVote's style guide for use in presentations, written materials, social media, and web content.
  • Concept, design, and produce a variety of visual communications products that clearly reflect the desired message in an easily understandable format that is both informative and motivating to the intended audience, with a particular focus on members of the election administration community.
  • Organize and capture all visual requirements necessary to complete each aspect of a design project, including, but not limited to searching for archived imagery, researching online stock photography houses, and requesting potential new photography.
  • Oversee changes to all design pieces, ensuring images are correct and copy corrections are made properly so that correct content is maintained throughout production.
  • Ensure final design deliverables are completed on schedule and prepare printer-ready files (as needed); archive final design projects appropriately.
  • Assist the Director of Communications with the development of visual content to support material using Canva, Infogr.am, and other design tools.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office Suite, photo and video applications
  • Knowledge of photography, video editing, and photo editing preferred but not required
  • Strong writing and analytic skills
  • Experience with election materials, such as ballots and voter guides, a plus but not required
  • Experience designing digital and print content, advertising graphics, social media content, presentation documents, and promotional graphics/flyers
  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS a plus but not required
  • Must be well organized, detail oriented, and have excellent time management skills
  • Must have ability to work independently as well as with a team
  • Self-starter, creative thinker
  • Able to multitask in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while still paying close attention to details
  • 2-5 years experience or a degree in Graphic Design, Visual Design, Marketing, or Visual Communications
